This situation gets more strange with each passing day

Also, I'm not familiar with the inner workings of an NHL front office, but shouldn't Gorton be commenting on this, not the president of the team? Unless of course things have gotten past the point where Davidson felt the need to step in and say something

Just a genuine question, i'm not sure how the dynamics work
Gorton was never comfortable as the face of the franchise, especially concerning touchy situations. JD was specifically brought on to cover this aspect, (in addition to his other duties) and that is exactly what he's doing

There's no getting around it, from a strictly visual/perception standpoint, none of this does any favors for Andersson.

honestly imagine feeling so entitled as to not give JD a call back when he calls to speak to you. Just disgusted

It could go either way. I think having JD make a comment shows that this is something that's reached the highlest levels of the organization. I also think having JD be the person on record commenting is a good move from a reputation and personality perspective.

He’s embarrassed.

The spotlight on these kids and these sports sometimes is cringe-worthy.
Embarrassed and just wants to disappear right now, hence why he's not returning calls and using his agent as a buffer. No interest in hockeying right now at all which says a ton for a kid who has lived and breathed hockey his entire life. He's burnt out and not handling it well.

Absolutely doesnt do Lias any favors. @Kovalev27 is right, when you have one of the classiest people in the entire game come out publicly saying these things its a monumental red flag. And they waited weeks to do so, so to me that says they didnt react or overreact too quickly when this started, they did their due diligence in planning how to approach it, and now after reaching out to the kid who wont get on the phone with them but is happy to do interviews in Sweden, they are at a loss.

I’m sorry but I don’t buy any mental health issue conspiracies. I know its 2020 and every damn thing in society is a delicate matter because everyone is incredibly sensitive, but this just an immature entitled kid who is upset that things didnt go his way.

I mean that's the thing, this approach just continues to raise more and more questions about Andersson.

For all we know, the Rangers could've done something incredibly inappropriate. I don't know that.

But from a messaging a standpoint, and a perception standpoint, so far, they're not the ones looking bad in this scenario.

Whatever has happened, it seems Lias is pretty much done with NYR. He doesn't seem to care if that's the end of his NHL career, or if some other organization wants to pick him up. Otherwise it'll be Europe.
I mean, that's great to an extent. If he doesn't care, we can keep him suspended and it's a non-issue. If he wants to play again, he can let the Rangers know. I actually hope it's that simple.

I highly doubt it considering the first class way this org has historically treated its players. Even ones that leave say that. But regardless let’s say something did happen.

JD didn’t hurt you let’s be real here. He’s calling you to see what happened. What he can do to help. You don’t pick up? You don’t call him back? Again one of the classiest most beloved and respected guys in the world of hockey. Go f*** yourself kid.

source?????

Refusal to speak to JD and explain what these incidents are just shows an extreme lack of maturity. How is JD supposed to actually solve these alleged issues if the player refuses to tell him what is going on? I think it's relatively safe to say these incidents aren't BY JD and he is the guy in charge of the organization and the guy capable of actually making changes to fix things.

You have no idea man.

It could be a ‘hey look JD, he’s so embarrassed by everything, he doesn’t want to face the embarrassment by having to talk to you yet’

Or it could be a ‘hey look JD, he said he doesn’t want to talk himself and asked me to do my job’

Ones very entitled, ones very immature

There was a lot of flak thrown at those of us who never liked the medal toss.

And while what we're seeing now isn't proof one way or the other about the benefits of being a good sportsman, I'm going to feel even more strongly the next time I see a kid not treating the game with respect.

I also do not understand what he thinks the long term plan here is. He said that at worst, he can go back to playing hockey in a year and a half. First of all, I am not sure that is even accurate as far as to who his right belong to. I doubt they expire. But let's say that he is right. What NHL team is going to touch him and play him with the big club after a self imposed banishment in which he did not play hockey in North America? At that point, even if signed, he is probably heading for the ECHL.
My understanding of his comment about the "year and a half" thing is that worst case scenario, once his ELC is up, he could sign with another SHL team to play

The Rangers would still own his rights obviously but he wouldn't be beholden to a contract like he is now. Right now I believe the team would have to loan him to a team, and obviously they don't seem interested in doing so

But again that's just what I got from what he said

This kid doesn’t think he should have to call John Davidson back. One of the classiest guys in the hockey world says all you need to know. Won’t return Johns phone calls. He’s a little **** is what he is. I didn’t like him as a hockey player but I always liked him personally. I loved the whole thing with the number 50. I liked his battle level at the WJC playing hurt. Now I can’t stand him. What a whiny entitled no talent baby.
Eh, kid is suspended and clearly has no idea what the f*** to do, probably better to let his agent handle things at this point.

kid needs to grow the **** up.

I mean the cynical interpretation here is that the Rangers and JD are saying these kind of things to make Andersson look worse, but who knows. If Andersson really won't talk to anyone and actually tell them what's up then the whole thing is just even more weird

probably doesn’t want to talk to him because JD is going to ask what the problem is and he’s going to say I didn’t get the 2C spot behind my hero Mika Zibanejad and I then had to move to Hartford and my salary got cut it was horrible.

But yeah the medal toss feels completely different now doesn’t it.

Now it’s easy to envision. ’wah I don’t want the silver’

I’ll say it again. Where we messed up with andersson, is that we rushed him for PR/media purposes. He probably should have just been allowed to play in Sweden for a couple seasons once we saw the skating

Again, he has done nothing but hurt his career and make things worse, to this point. You think it's a bad thing that he's now deferring to his agent? Maybe it's possible he realizes he's not in a position to be talking to the team because he'll f*** up more.

We drafted him 7th overall that’s where we messed up. Everything since then has been an effort to turn chicken shit into chicken salad

Or it could be the advice of his father or agent himself.

Or it could be the preference of someone who feels they have been mistreated via direct channels and does not trust himself nor representatives of the organization to resolve anything without some mediation.

Or it could be that JD is an alien who is trying to harvest Lias's brain, Lias figured it out, and is now trying to juggle his public-image with the existential threat of extraterrestrial predation.

Or it could be that Lias only talks to people named John in the Spring and Summer seasons.

no I don’t honestly. But if JD calls to speak to you personally call him back or pick up the phone. Show some respect. At worst Say listen JD I appreciate the call but I’d rather things be handled thru my representatives. Be an adult.

I see the thing with him refusing to talk to the team directly as akin to an accused criminal talking to police and then after six hours of interrogation realizing he has f***ed himself royally. Then he asks for an attorney because he knows he needs help at this point.
