We all know that it isn't where it needs to be especially with the loss of Mitchell. Add to that Kessler to ANA, Spezza and Hemsky to Dal, Stasny to STL, CHI being CHI, and Vanek heading to Minny and I just want to take the general pulse here.

Personally I'm not a big mcnabb fan and I see it as a glaring hole on the left. I understand our cap space is limited sp how's everyone else feeling? Thoughts ideas conerns?

Let's talk D folks.

I think a good d-man to play with Voynov would be the best way to improve this team. That being said, I don't see it as urgent but if the opportunity is there go for it.

The Kings have just under 2.9 mill left for the Cap. There is no quility Defender on the market for that price.

Slava's partner will have be RR, or have to come up from Manchester (McNabb).

Not worried.

Anaheim, Dallas, and Minnesota all have worse defenses than the Kings. St. Louis hasn't won jack **** and is grossly overrated. And we just beat Chicago.

The sky isn't falling and if Mitchell was re-signed everyone would complain it was overpayment - which is what he'll get.

Muzzin can still get better
Voynov had a down year
Jazz hands had a great second half and can get better
Regher is still solid
Doughty is Doughty
Greene has a great playoffs
and McNabb as room to grow

Color me happy and Color me badd

Before I worry about it, the Kings will have to suck because of it. No, it wasn't great in the playoffs, but then the Kings went and outscored everyone.

Every team is going to have a flaw somewhere. The teams that win are able to work around and compensate for those flaws. The Kings did just that, and there's no reason to think they won't keep making it work.

Maybe they won't be able to make it work next year, but right now, everyone is chasing the Kings.

Not worried at all. I'm excited to see what McNabb can do in training camp. Let's face it, Mitchell was a shade of his pre-knee injury self and was a turnover and penalty machine in the playoffs. Love the guy, but it's time. I don't expect a healthy Regehr will be any worse. I expect Drew to be Drew and Muzzin to improve and Voynov to bounce back. Plus, no team in the league has more responsible forwards than the Kings do. Defense is a team effort and nobody does it better than LA. I'll start worrying when the Kings drop outa the top 5 in defensive metrics.

We should be set on D as long as Muzzin, Martinez, and Voynov continue to improve. They're all still young and its a good sign that they've already won a cup together. That's invaluable experience right there...

Muzzin-Doughty
Regehr-Voynov
Martinez-Greene
McNabb

Defense looks pretty good.

I agree – I don't see a problem. In fact, I'd consider swapping out Regehr or Greene for McNabb for part of the season. If all works out, I could see us letting Regehr go at the end of the season and getting some young blood in our defensive core. I still don't love Muzzin on our top pair, but if he makes Doughty better, then so be it.

Obviously our defense could be better, but given the incredible amount of defensive responsibility instilled in our forwards (especially our centermen), I don't think any of us should be worried barring actual poor results during the season.

drew muzzin
slava Martinez
greene/regher Mcnabb

I would rotate greene regher with McNabb and run the slava alec pairing. Moving A mart to 3rd pairing will have him leaving next year to another team for a top 4 playing time.

I think Voynov will have a better year.

I agree, and I think the expectations were a little too high. Bottom line is the coach has a lot of confidence in him, as he got huge minutes throughout the playoffs. He played 115 games last season! That is a lot of wear and tear. That doesn't include pre-season. Bottom line is he was a plus player and scored his highest point total yet, he is only 24 years old and already has two Stanley Cups. We are a bit demanding, no?
