Training day is ride a towe truck over my balls awesome

You also have to take into consideration that this is Denzel ****ing Washington and that this role turned his whole career upside down. Here is a good guy playing.,.. oh snap, a bad guy
Definitely, he was incredible in that role.

It Follows was a huge waste of time. The ending was bland just like the rest of the movie: nothing happened. Good soundtrack though.

Don't be a snob, this is a mostly friendly discussion thread, other than the people trashing everything.

I thought Training Day had good performances, I understood the motivations, etc and the writing isn't cheap.

I'm just not sure I buy the characters at all. Those cops were really dirty, it's almost like an exaggerated parody-caricature of dirty cops rather than a portrayal, or maybe I'm naive.

Near the end of the movie, Denzel beats up Hawke and leaves him, which allows Hawke to fall on his car. Why didn't he finish off Hawke? He's a loose end.

You're being very naive. Cops are, for the most part, very dirty. At the end of the day it's just an other job, so when you see an opportunity to make some extra profit you seize it - especially when it's off the back of other crooks. In 99% people's minds, this rationale holds up because what's the harm... you see yourself as a good person, they are the bad guy, even though what you're doing is probably worst.

In the end of the movie, perhaps it's MY naivete that's in play here, but Denzel probably took a liking to Hawke's character because he had that one ounce of good in him left still that he was desperately trying to cling to.

It could be my failing that I have trouble seeing five cops just walk off with a quarter million each or whatever.

But I dig your second paragraph. That's a very cogent observation imo.

Talking about cops, I really liked Serpico, with a young Al Pacino, the only non corrupt cop in his service. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070666/ I'm glad we pay cops a high salary in Canada, it has to decrease corruption. Once, I was quietly smoking a L with a friend right in front on my house in Bogota, and they sneaked in just for the bribe, 50 000 pesos, about 25$.

OT (pathetic story coming up): Back in the summer of 2002 or 2003, I worked at real bagel. I was going to buy one of the cakes on the employee discount, and the guy training me was mad at me for not just stealing the cake.

It's like a teletubbies version of the training day script lol.

its because hes still a cop and thought he would get away with EVERYThing till the end, and truly thought his word over hawkes would "pass", had he killed hawke it would of just been a hassle to take care of everything after the fact

When I'm not being accused of loving everything I am accused of basically the opposite, being a snob.

You just can't win with some people, shrug.

But thank you for the discussion of TD.

This statement fits in a 'movies' thread well.

Don't get me wrong, I see what you mean. I'm sure at that level there is a good amount of scrutiny and you are required to have integrity up the wazoo as well. I'm mostly talking about my personal experiences and extrapolating, but I doubt I'm far from the truth as well.

It could be my failing that I have trouble seeing five cops just walk off with a quarter million each or whatever.

Thank you, I had to re-confirm with the lady who remembers the movie vividly and she said the comment was on point.

This as well, without a doubt.

Just watched the finale of Wayward Pines. Pretty good science-fiction for a TV series. Looks like it's a one and done show.

Started watching Daredevil half-expecting some below-average crap like Gotham but... It's actually pretty darn good.

Got hyped like crazy then got blasted because of said hype but at the end it's a very decent superhero show

At least IMHO

Oh, I didn't find the movie that hard to "get" at all. I just don't share the opinion that the performances and writing were brilliant at all.

I thought it was stretched well beyond credibility and it was a completely telegraphed script.

To each their own. But disagreeing doesn't mean we don't get it.

I think you're giving yourself a bit too much credit if you think Training Day is a movie that someone needs to 'get'. There's not much there to begin with.

I didn't like Training Day at all when I first saw it, but I was like 14. Haven't seen it since. I should probably go back to it sometime to be able to give a more informed opinion.

It Follows was a huge waste of time. The ending was bland just like the rest of the movie: nothing happened. Good soundtrack though.

I thought it was great. Original and creepy. If you were expecting to be terrified during the movie I can understand being disappointed because it's not really scary. Agreed about the ending to a degree, I feel like the movie started with a great premise but then the writer wasn't really sure where to go with it. By the third act it fell apart a little. But I still liked it a lot.
