But how do you know if there are extra scenes or not if you don't sit through the credits first?

I typically just Google it in the theater when the movie ends.

Marvel movies always have at least 1 mid-credits scene. I think this is the case really in any movie now where sequels are already planned out. King Kong for example I expected one once they established Godzilla was the same universe.

Have a birthday dinner to attend tonight, but, once I'm back home, I am going to spend 8 straight hours watching Part II of "The OA". So damn excited about that! If it's anything close to Part I, I might have to put an adult diaper on to get through it.

One man's excitement is another's afterthought.

To think that I bailed in the middle of OA's S1.

Yeah, I remember us discussing it.

To me, it's definitely in my top 5 TV shows ever, perhaps as high as number 3 overall.

I wonder if I gave up too soon. Found it wasn't moving in any direction that kept my interest.

What's been appealing to you about it?

Ugh, that's a very loaded question to answer for me honestly... There's so much here to unpack, and it's even more difficult to do so without major spoilers.

In brief - I love the impossibly far-reaching ambition and imagination. And I'm not referring to the writers here, but more so to the show's characters. It is so head-spinning that at first you tend to look down on it, I know I did. But then it somehow overtakes you. It becomes very real and humane. As the show itself states - it's about angels, but not the winged kind.

Then there's the mystery aspect that is important to draw one in, but fades in comparison to the series' above qualities IMO. It (the mystery) can certainly appeal to conspiracy theorists, but to me and many others it does not need to offer any closure because it is much more open-ended than that. But I know many who were infuriated by it too.

I wholeheartedly agree, Tarentino is basically the ultimate director with Scorcese being a close 2nd.
  1. Reservoir Dogs
  2. Pulp Fiction
  3. Jackie Brown
  4. Kill Bill (1 and 2)
  5. Death Proof
  6. Inglourious Basterds
  7. Django Unchained
  8. The Hateful Eight
It's almost hard to pick a bad one because there aren't any, but you put a bullet to my head and I say Death Proof.
Reservoir Dogs cliché story, weak construct and almost no character development. The positive: Good twist ending.
Pulp Fiction: ugh! cheesy lines abound and the briefcase had Wallace's soul in it, really? QT was just pulling shit out of his ass, had no real plot but it was so different for its time it was hailed as something awesome. It is not.
Jackie Brown, I don't even remember ever finishing it.
Kill Bill 1&2 fluff gore, cheesy lines again and ridiculous characters. Trailer trash cowboy holding on to a Japanese katana of near mythical status that everyone is fighting for, fluff gore meets spaghetti western meets oriental martial arts. Yeah, not a Hodge-podge of everything thrown in a blender with water fountain blood spatter.
etc...

I feel a verbal sparring match coming up.

Sorry, didn't mean to put you in a position to cover so much ground.

When you said that at first you tend to look down on it, was that after you took in all of season 1 or did you feel that only up to a certain juncture? In other words, at what point did season 1 really take hold for you -- in the middle, near the end, on the last episode? Did you feel compelled to watch it again?

I may have narrowed down my questions a little better this time. :D

Tarantino has his hits and misses. I did enjoy RD and PF at the time though admit I don’t enjoy them as much now. That said, True Romance I still enjoy, though I know he didn’t direct it.

I know he wanted to direct a Star Trek movie at one point. Don’t think that would happen but it would have been funny seeing Humans, Klingons and Romulans having a Mexican stand-off with Spock spouting off passages from the Bible while dropping f-bombs.

Samuel L. Jackson as Spock
Brad Pitt (with his IG accent) as Scottie
Leo as Captain Kirk
Tim Roth?
Michael Madsen?
Christoph Waltz?

.. you know they would all be in for some reason

Also starring:
Steve Buscemi as Chekov
Danny Trejo as Sulu
Pam Grier as Uhura
Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken (recently awaken from cryo-sleep)

With a special appearance by Harvey Keitel as the President of the Federation.

You know, if these actors did show up, I’d definitely be watching.

There wasn't a singular moment in Part I that I can point to. The best I can do is to say that at some point my curiosity of what is the story behind the main character grew into something much deeper. It happened gradually, but I can tell you what contributed to this change. It was when you started seeing the impact of the lead character onto the others. As multifaceted as the series is to me, that is its loudest message IMO.

No, I did not watch The OA again. You'd think that's because I didn't like it much, but it isn't that at all. It is my personal opinion that this isn't a show meant to be micro-analyzed during repeat viewings. It is largely driven by emotions and that makes it hit the hardest as you see it for the first time. The emotional tones and sub-tones are pretty much all I remember of it now, over two years after its debut. Much less so the finer points of the script. And that isn't a negative for me with The OA. That said, the show does have a handful of incredible scenes (The Five Movements) that can never be erased from my mind.

.

I'm sorry, but how does Reservoir Dogs have a cliché story and a weak construct? I'm actually surprised to hear this as a criticism...what other movie prior to 1993 had a similar story? He said he was inspired by the movie The Killing (book by Stanley Kubrick) and the movie Kansas City Confidentials (1952) but there was no plagiarism, so that cliché comment makes little to absolutely no sense at all. And I don't see how it's a weak construct if the plot twist was successful according to you? Character development? Just take a look at Mr White then...went from being the most mature and experienced man in the room to completely getting fooled by an undercover cop, giving up his identity, betraying his old friend and getting himself killed.

This is just a standard post that rips on a movie without actually explaining the reasoning behind the opinion.

Pulp Fiction: ugh! cheesy lines abound and the briefcase had Wallace's soul in it, really? QT was just pulling **** out of his ass, had no real plot

The briefcase had Wallace's soul in it? No, not really...that's just a made up fan theory that people like you are running with. Tarentino has denied this and said

Tarantino has admitted that there is no official explanation behind the briefcase’s contents, and that it was simply written into the screen play as an intriguing McGuffin.

- It was actually supposed to be diamonds in it but he didn't want to re-use that idea since it was already done in Reservoir Dogs.
- Movie itself doesn't have a single plot, it's just exploring the lives of different individuals from their point of view. And like any movie, his "cheesy" lines are actually just a build up to a tense moment that are related to those stories.
- Royale with cheese story w/ Vincent and Jules? Brought up again when Jules shot the guys who stole the briefcase.
- Foot massage dialogue w/ Vincent and Jules? Brought up again when Vincent took Mia out for dinner which later leads to her overdose
- Amsterdam story early in the movie? Brought up again when Vincent and Mia bond over Amsterdam while getting high and leads to her overdose (again)
- The story about the watch? Inspires Butch not to throw the fight

These happen not only in his other movies as well, but in some cases his movies are intertwined by referencing each other. A little cool thing QT does.

it was so different for its time it was hailed as something awesome. It is not.

Yes, something hailed as awesome by 1.6m fans on IMDB isn't awesome, it's just plain trash apparently.

Kill Bill 1&2 fluff gore, cheesy lines again and ridiculous characters. Trailer trash cowboy holding on to a Japanese katana of near mythical status that everyone is fighting for, fluff gore meets spaghetti western meets oriental martial arts. Yeah, not a Hodge-podge of everything thrown in a blender with water fountain blood spatter.
etc...

Yeah, no comment for this. QT clearly does not produce your type of movies...kind of wish you lead with these comments so I could have decided to not reply to this at all.

Someone's panties are in a bunch lol. I never asked you to reply, so whether it bothers you to reply or not is solely on you. You assumed I want your point of view, I don't. You on the other hand, asked for ours, as in the people that think he's overrated. Maybe it's not the best idea to ask for a dissenting opinion if it's going to rile you up like that.
