I found it was great but some parts were dragged on tbh, but yah it probs deserves to be a 4.5 after some fine tuning.

I don't really give many movies a 5 star unless it's either a masterpiece or a personal favourite. You'd be hard pressed to find people who would consider Shawshank a masterpiece imo

It's actually the opposite. There's a reason it sits at #1 on imdb's all time list. Those are user ratings.

I know plenty of people who call it a masterpiece, no matter the generational gaps.

Just saw Drive: ★★★1/2

I feel like this quote is a good summary of the movie...slow as hell but good nonetheless. Carey Mulligan is a bae

PAGE 38
DRIVER leaves his apartment to the noise of Desire's "Under Your Spell", which has been nonsensically playing at Standard and Irene's party next door to the zombied joy of their guests. DRIVER looks to their door, to see if perhaps the staff at Pitchfork had robbed the place and left their iTunes playlist behind.
IRENE: Hey
We pause for 4 seconds, as IRENE must calibrate her emptiest gaze in an attempt to convey longing, and match DRIVER's own highway speed emptiness disguised as longing.
DRIVER: Hi
We pause for 5 more seconds, IRENE has clearly sensed a staring contest has begun. DRIVER puts on his best Creepface to gain an advantage.
IRENE: Sorry about the noise
5 more seconds pause as DRIVER silently considers the horrors taking place in Sudan. IRENE continues to stare, taking in DRIVER as masturbatory material for her evening's bath.
DRIVER: I was gonna call the cops
4 more full seconds pass as each tries to remember which opening dance sequence went with each season of the Cosby show.
IRENE: I wish you would
Their life-changing exchange is interrupted by STANDARD, who will quiz DRIVER about the relationship with his wife, accepting answers such as "Yes" and "Mmhmm" in place of an ass-kicking.

With the high, high number of WW2 movies, I always wonder why there's not more movies made on WW1? It surely doesn't have the usual villain that WW2 does have and it doesn't have the joint effort of alllied forces fighting against evil, but it does have a lot more humanity I think. A lot of 'Why the f*** are we even fighting". The whole development of actual armies under that time is amazing. The stories of great Generals doing amazing feats. The overall conditions, the tragedy that the western front becomes, etc. Is there even one movie that is close to what Fury/IB/Schindlers List/Private Ryan/Stalingrad/Vita è bella/Das Boot in quality ? Laurence of Arabia is a classic for sure, but thats 1960s old.

Limitless: ★★★1/2

Original idea, poor execution with some dumb plot holes. Like why borrow 100k from a thug when you were already on your way to quintupling your money everyday, even starting with a small amount would get you to 100k in no time.

Is it good? Ill give it a shot.

I don't remember watching it haha, I remember some clips but I don't think I've ever seen the full length. Anyhow, it's one of those WW1 movies that I remember. It was well received by critics I believe and it's most likely better than Passchendaele

I may be demonstrating my ignorance here but if I recall my basic history, the Americans weren’t really combatants in WW1. As most Hollywood movies tend to tell American stories, I’d guess for the general North American audience, the stories may not have the same appeal as WW2 which I believe the Americans were also late to the fray.

I’m not disagreeing with your points at all, but think the reason we don’t see more WW1 movies is Hollywood needs a story that makes money to put it bluntly.

They fought from June 17 after a commercial ship was sunk by submarines and after the interception of war plots between Mexico and Germany. I may be wrong but I think they deployed a million overseas and about half to a quarter actually seen combat.

Speaking of Joaquin Phoenix, watched the Sisters Brothers the other day. Thought it was brilliant.
I'm a sucker for westerns. Add some dark comedy elements? Take my money.

Also Un Prophète, from the same director, is really good.

They may have fought for about or less than a year... they were really more active in the Second War. That may make some sense
