We need to move Pesce('s cap hit) before something else can be finalized? And we want competing offers for him?
Before the season starts you guys are allowed to go over 10%, so you guys are still allowed to sign players, etc.

Similarly how the Leafs are over the cap, just waiting for the trades to go through.

It’s likely a futures type move with Nashville. I can’t see Glass being of much interest. Although Nashville may include a righty defender in the deal because they have 4 already

Maybe that righty will be the piece that goes to SJS. So it’s making sure all pieces acquired interest SJ.

If that’s the case, I wonder if Fabbro would be involved. There were rumors that SJ wanted him around the TDL last season.

Yes, we are allowed to, but other teams are less willing to pay the price for Pesce if they know we are above the cap and need to shed some cap hit.

Would you trade Pesce for Askorov?

Not if I'm Nashville.

Yep in a heartbeat.

See no reason for the Preds to. Saris isn’t getting any younger.

I’d think the Canes are looking at a pick(s) or prospects like L’Heureux. Getting a 1st out of NSH would be a win in my book.

I read that Trotz said that Saros, Josi, and Forsberg were absolutely off the table as far as trades. Saros only turned 28 3 months ago, has two years left on his current contract, and imo is a clear NHL top 5 goalie. I know that Askarov (just turned 21yo) has been considered the #1 NHL goalie prospect for awhile, but his play in the AHL so far seems to be decent but not outstanding (by the numbers, I haven't seen him play).

Let's say Trotz is looking at rolling with proven commodity Saros as his primary netminder for the long term (I certainly would). Would that, combined with Askarov not excelling yet at the AHL level, combined with the inherent lack of precision in accurately projecting any goalie's development, mean that Nashville might be willing to cash in on Askarov now in case he might lose value going forward? Of course, potential trading partners would have the same questions so I guess it would all come down to a franchise's risk/ reward calculus.

I'm certainly not going to argue that principle doesn't hold. But on the other hand, how much is it offset by competition among multiple teams in need all trying to acquire a pretty rare commodity?

True but Canes like to operate under a position of negotiating strength when making trades so being over 10% on Cap wouldn't be their MO.

Do something damn it. I'm drunk.....again..

So now that Tarasenko is not going to happen, wonder where we pivot. Still have a big need to get help up front and now the only options are via trade.

Nylander as an own rental (with outside shot at re-signing) for Pesce + ?
I'm so torn on Nylander. On the one hand, seeing him on Aho's wing could just be magical. I think they're a stylistic fit.

OTOH, I just don't know how we'd fit him in, long-term. He'd have to come with an extension of no more than 8 x $9M, imo. Even saying that, though, getting everyone else re-signed would be close to impossible. Who knows.

I think he would be a likely rental, looked at as a 1-year deal like Tarasenko in that case.

So Pesce + a small add means renting Nylander is similar to own-rentaling Pesce.

The Canes are in a nice spot now that all the UFA D talent is gone.

The GMs who don't like what they see on their back end need to start making calls.
Sounds like they need to see a doctor. Could be hemorrhoids.

Where's that Nashville fan that's a doctor who was visiting our board during the playoffs?

If

Toronto:
Pesce, resigned
Turbo at 50%

Carolina
Nylander

Chicago or Anaheim
some small piece from Toronto to eat 50% of Turbo's hit

sure lets do it. I dont have any interest in including Necas or Jarvis in that deal.
