Its not like they didn’t try to acquire Bertuzzi at the deadline. The reports were that Boston was willing to pay more so they got him. I’m sure they have interest in the player. And, pretty much all the players Friedman named is his blog right before ufa as CAR potentially being interested in they’ve already signed or have been rumored to have at least offer a deal to (Tarasenko). Bertuzzi and very specifically a 2yr deal for Orlov was mentioned in that blog iirc.

I’ll believe it when I see it though. Signing Bertuzzi would put them over the cap, so they’d be dealing Skjei or Pesce from weakness.

I remember years back, a guy on another forum called the Richards and Carter trades from Philly. Many were skeptical and thought he was nuts, but he ended up being a real inside source as he nailed all the details.

Lest we forget that random “Lord Stanley’s Warehouse” guy or whatever from a few years back…

I think that Skjei is for sure to be traded. If Karlsson is acquired, bye-bye to Pesce, as well. If the market is still soft for Bertuzzi, offer him a high dollar one year deal and see if he bites. Say hello to the toughest-to-play-against team that we've ever had.

Moving one of them prior to signing could be some of the details that still need to be ironed out.

I'm not sure how we'd be able to keep Teravainen if we trade for Karlssson *and* sign Bertuzzi. He'd almost certainly have to go for cap reasons, no?

I’m not at all saying bertuzzi is bad but I just don’t see him as a star the way a lot of folks seem to. Believe it or not Michael Bunting has a higher point per game ratio than Bertuzzi over their nhl careers

Id say it isn’t too surprising given Bunting spent the majority of his time with a high scoring Toronto team and Bertuzzi has been on terrible Red Wings teams

Over the 110 percent cap of the off-season?

True, but still. I don’t think they’d get full value for either D if they already over cap. Kinda like when they signed Gardiner so late in September or 2019. Teams knew they needed to and wanted to dump Faulk and they didn’t get full value then.

Conversely, you could also say that teams have already used up all their cap space in September so it isn theoretically a lot easier to deal someone in July vs right before training camp.

If it's a 1 year deal, Bertuzzi doesn't have to be a star to be super-impactful to the team.

If they are actually signing bertuzzi then I would say that means the end of teravainen

To me it’s purely style, I don’t care much about the points. He can play our pesky forecheck style with more skill than say Martinook and Fast. It’s just going more all in on our style. I don’t think he’s that great either, but I think he’d fit in well and he’d play the same way in the playoffs. Necas gets us to the playoffs then he gets rubbed out of the play. Bertuzzi may not put up a ton of points during the season but you’re not knocking him out of the play in the playoffs.

I wasn’t convinced watching him prior to the boston trade but he is clearly benefiting from a great playoff plus size and willingness to board battle.

It may be that Teravainen is part of the package for Karlsson, sort of as a piece similar to Duclair that San Jose can pump and trade at the deadline.
That would be my guess. Not sure the exact dollars but karlsson Bertuzzi TDA in teravainen pesce skjei out

I’d hate that.

Play him on 3rd line 1PP and then just let him walk at the end of the year if he’s not in the future plans. “Own rental” etc etc.

This is a team we’ve been saying needs more forwards, not less. This is also a team that needs to (smartly, safely) go “all in” this year. Getting rid of TT would seem to me to be a step back.

Not sure it’s really a step back if it’s gonna be the same TT that played last year that was basically invincible when he played
