Isn't he 19 still? Lol.

Yeah he could be playing in the WJC this month.

I seriously think he'd be better off going. You can't tell me that his current NHL experience is better for his development. He needs some easier competition on a team that doesn't stink.

Johnny don’t care, happy wife, happy life.
He thrives (personally) in low pressure environments, that’s why he had to escape the Battle of Alberta and now is living his life long dream of playing slightly closer to him.

It's funny how the 3 big trades/signings in the off season have resulted in every team not being very good so far. Calgary, Florida and CBJ. lol

They drafted two D in the top 12 picks, which to my understanding hasn't been done since there were 12+ teams in the league 50+ years ago.

The current D core is bad, and when you throw in the injuries they're down to the nubs. So I don't know why folks are acting like they can do much about the current situation. Here are today's players with their career games played:

Gavrikov (228) Bjork (11)
Berni (1) Gudbranson (doesn't matter he's terrible)
Bayreuther (82) Peeke (139)

And the old saying is that a D doesn't mature until he's played 200+ games in the league.

I'd say Gavi and Peeke are second pair caliber and then you have 4 AHLers.

I think your memory is failing you. The Coyotes made the 3rd round once, and that was the only time they've ever won postseason series. They have the same number of postseason series wins as the Jackets, two. The Jackets were recently in the postseason four years in a row, and the Coyotes have never topped that, and the last time they did it was in the year 2000.

A few late 1st rounders does not a franchise make. This is one of the big biases of HFboards, people drool over 1sts even if they're super late. Like the Sens took Lassi Thomson with the 1st the Jackets gave them. Who cares.
Third round is better than 2nd round last time I checked?

They don’t make a franchise, but they’re a lot better than a 2nd round loss where you then lose Bobrovsky, Duchene and Panarin.

good year for a tank year. That said I don't think it was their intention to tank when they signed Gaudreau.

Indeed, but it was surrounded by 20 years of continuous suckage. Safe to say it was a fluke. Something is seriously wrong with that franchise.

I agree on a macro level but they had 4 pretty solid years between 2016-2020. Otherwise... not so much.

Last years metrics did suggest the jackets would be bad. They never addressed their defense. And their goaltending is even worse.

injuries to key players makes it even worse.

They should clean house with the gm and the coaching staff.

They did address their defense. Not just for this season.
They tried to land McDonagh but he wouldn’t waive

They are a rebuilding team missing half their roster, nobody should expect them to be good

To claim that they did nothing to address their defense problems is disingenuous. They did draft young stud defenseman David Jiricek for this purpose. That is a huge move.

Also Mateychuk at 12 and Ceulemans last year

People are talking about defense and goaltending. The Jackets centers are Jenner, Roslovic, and Kuraly. They need to add a legit top line center that play can flow through and they'll look 100 times better.

Johnson looks like a legit top6 option for next year.
Maybe even a 1C option with Gaudreau.

If they miss on one of the 1C prospects this draft they need to go shopping for a legit C.
They’d have the assets

Seems every franchise has some success at some point, but CBJ is always just kind of “there” at best. Even Arizona was a top-ish team for a little while.

Should have traded Panarin/Bob and not gone big game hunting in 2019, but I can understand why they didn’t, they needed some semblance of a playoff run.

Really hope they get Bedard is the Wings don’t, they need some hope. Even without him, it’s looking at least a bit better now that big name players are actually staying/signing there

They have already one of the best prospect pools in the league and are looking at another top5 pick.
On top of having prime Gaudreau/Werenski/Laine.

I’d say it’s definitely looking atleast a bit better now.

They just run into a nightmare injury mess with a really young roster and the flaws are so damm easy to see now

It's funny how the 3 big trades/signings in the off season have resulted in every team not being very good so far. Calgary, Florida and CBJ. lol

Who thought Columbus would be at the level of Calgary/Florida?

That’s 2 ”contending” teams and one rebuilding team.

Columbus is like New York few years ago when they landed Panarin.
They just didn’t run into missing half their roster trouble.

This has always been a development year for Columbus.

& that trade isn’t the reason Florida isn’t doing great
