Armstrong has let the past 2 captains walk. I don't think he lets loyalty cloud his decision making.

I'm also not sure if Perron being on LTIR counts against the contract limit for the Blues or not.
Tried like hell to bring Pie back though and I think was shocked when he signed with Vegas. Perron is a lot more like the Backes non deal to me. DP57 has a lot of hockey on those treads just like Backes and it has more to do with what the contract will look like down the road than this year. They have about 6 million to spare after signing Pru and Mikkola and a cheap goalie (could still be Chucky Sideburns) so the issue is more about next year when they will have to extend ROR, Thomas and Kyrou and Barby. This is why Army could and should trade Tank and probably Krug too. I hear the Boston Bruins would Love a Krug return. Pru becomes Krug and you might have money to bring Leddy back too.

Pietrangelo didn't sign with Vegas until after the Blues signed Krug- the Blues sign Krug before Pietrangelo signed.

I agree, Perron's situation is more similar to Backes' than Pietrangelo's, though I don't think Perron will experience as stark of a decline and out produced Backes when he was this age.

Yes, I also agree the issue is more so 2023-2024 than 2022-2023.

Already discussed Krug vs Perunovich in another thread in depth a month or so ago, but long story short, Perunovich isn't at Krug's level and may never be offensively or come close to being able to be anything but a super heavily sheltered offensive defenseman, which is why I think trading Krug would be unwise while relying on Perunovich. I'd like someone better than Leddy to be brought in, but would be OK with him coming back at the right AAV. Scandella's contract is hurting right now (he's fine as 3rd pairing but is paid too much).

No way Perron fits in the cap structure in 2023-24 unless Tarasenko is gone. Signing Perron now means trading Tarasenko or letting him walk away next year.

Its tough to see productive players leave when they become unrestricted free agents. Its double tough when those players sign long term deals with other teams.

But if Perron wants a new three year deal at his age and with his injury history, I say don"t do it. Let him be someone else's problem in a year, like Backes was for Boston.

But then I remember Joe Pavelski. I though Dallas would regret signing him, and sp far he has been great for them, Maybe he didn't have Perron's injury history.

I’m just curious what fans thoughts are on David Perron testing the free agent market and whether or not this means bigger things for the Blues if he signs elsewhere. My thinking is you do not let a guy like that leave unless you have bigger plans.
Matt Tkachuk anyone? I personally would prefer Brady because he’s a little younger but I believe the Calgary power forward is available while the other is not. Does anyone else here feel like if Army lets Perron sign elsewhere that they have bigger plans for someone like Malkin or Matt Tkachuk? Do you think we get more value from those two players then we do from DP57? Do we think Perron and team find a reasonable price and he signs in St. Louis?

Why is it always framed as teams "letting" a player leave rather than said player "choosing" to leave? It takes two to tango and the salary cap can make things a bit tricky at times.

Losing Perron will suck big time if it happens, but that means Kyrou, Thomas, Saad, Schenn, Buch and others will have to pick up the slack. His contributions on the PP will be missed, but we should have enough offence to make up for it.

And that’s not Army’s M.O. to ‘cheat’ the system like that. It wouldn’t happen.

That’s why they put in 35+ rules and all that. Perron wouldn’t qualify so that’s why it would have been worth a shot.

They reject that 100%? Why not try? They gonna reject the trade and also penalize you?

Are there any rumors on Perron? I am watching ESPN+ coverage and his name has not been mentioned once. Weekes is on there, so they have someone with some sources who is knowledgeable. It's not just bad ESPN coverage. There is nothing I can see on the main boards. Maybe he is waiting for us to clear cap, but I just cannot see how we can.

Plenty more to come. Market has only been open a couple of hours. Army working on Taranseko and Krug trades if you ask me. I still think DP57 will be wearing a Blue note next year.

Tarasenko trade will free up the space. I'm positive that DA has to be working the phone to make this happen. Gotta wait out the other signings to find a good landing spot. Not seeing a signing and not hearing any specific rumors gives me hope that we will bring back DP.

Rumor is Perron to the Dead Things for two years.
