McDavid hasn't exactly been himself this year either though, production aside.

I dunno about that. I think McD has been fire this year... the difference has been that Drai's spent 100% of his time with McD or Nuge, so competent linemates, whereas past years when separated we'd put Nuge with McD (and Drai with scraps) or we'd put all three with scraps in a 3C system.

Our depth has been (still is) not conducive to taking full advantage of those 3Cs, but at least this year we have some competent 4th liners that can grind it out on the 3rd line... so only slightly above their heads and allow us to have some semblance of two scoring lines (entirely to McD's singularity of skill on the "top" line).

He definitly answered the bell game 1, but teams often do when their top player is out.

What many want to see though is can he carry the team?

Given the lack of depth on this roster, I think most reasonable fans would say... keeping them in a playoff spot until McD returns would be a huge success. We have literally 3 top-six NHLers on our roster (4 if you count Neal, which you wouldn't) and one of them is a green rookie.

You cannot find a current playoff team with less depth up front, which is complete testament to how great McD and Drai have been playing. That much should already be obvious.

I mean look at your own roster... after McD/Gaudreau/Drai/Tkachuk... objectively... if you went down the depth charts... how many times would you have anything other than [Calgary Player] > [Oiler Player]? Maybe 2-3 other times?

that’s very true not a lot of teams have crazy depth. Just to compare the Oilers and Flames James Neal has scored at a better pace this season that any Flames player has...

4 point night for Draisaitl.

Yup, he's clearly "carried" by McDavid...

Leon just cost the Oilers the game tonight.

"Leon Draisaitl tried to carry a puck through two Lightning players while entering the offensive zone on an Oilers power play. Draisaitl came out the other end, but the puck did not, stolen by Yanni Gourde, who skated 110 feet for a breakaway goal that made the score 2-1. An empty-netter sealed the deal on Tampa’s ninth straight win"

Yup. Top 10 players never make mistakes. They are all perfect and go +100 every season.

What you also fail to mention is that he contributed on the only goal the team scored tonight and put up 5 points in 2 games since McDavid has gone down.

Haters just gonna turn the argumentation upside down even if he wins the art ross. They just gonna say it was cause Mcdavid was out and he would have beaten Draisaitl to it, if he wasn't xD

So you created a thread and then posted 0 responses over 18 pages until you found some obscure reason to discredit Draisaitl again?? Yep no ulterior motive to this thread or anything folks, move along...

Sounds exactly like my beer league team:
  • One of the top forwards tries a move in the offensive zone, turnover, breakaway (where the D at?), and undresses the goalie.
  • No one says chit to the D or Goalie.
  • Reason for loosing is that forward effed up
ok den sports fans.

I always thought the D were there to defend against... y'know the other teams forwards. In addition there is a player in net with huge pads who tries to stop the goals.

What’s that? 10 points up on the next man in the league? I’d say he’s doing just fine :)
