I edited my post above to say this.. Habs have drafted low too many times in the first round in the last couple of years and traded too many early round picks for immediate help at the deadline.. At some point, thats the tag price to have a competitive team that makes the playoffs almost every year..
No offense, but that's a load of bull. You know which team has the longest current playoff streak in the NHL? The Pittsburgh Penguins. You know which team has the longest current playoff streak in the AHL? Wow, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins! Worth noting that the last two baby Pens coaches were Mike Sullivan and John Hynes, who both have some background in player development.
But okay, let's assume this is not at all on poor Sly. Let's say its on scouting. Then why has no one been taken to task? If the evaluation of talent is so poor, then when does it become a problem for the scouting team? What do they keep seeing that isn't reality?
Or how about the players themselves? What if it isn't talent evaluation OR player development, it's just that the Habs keep drafting people with zero character or the will to become better players? Well then, sounds like Bergy's ability to detect character has to come into serious question now, doesn't it? Habs interview a ton of players at the combine, and Bergevin will be a huge part of that process. What the hell are they missing on every time?
Or maybe, despite all these possible criticisms........Bergevin is still satisfied? Personally, I hope One Less Louise is right and that Ducharme is suddenly announced as the successor. Lefebvre was ready to move on, and I would not stick with such a coach at a position involving player development.
