Remind me again what this team needs? Skilled top 6 forwards with size? And he's French Canadian? What a coincidence that we need the first item urgently and could greatly benefit from the PR of a star French Canadian player on the team.

Quite frankly, I would use Kyle Turris as trade bait for a top 4 defenseman if I could get Lecavalier signed for 3-5 years.

There's no emotions when it comes to the business of building a team. You either have the balls to trade players and move on or you're always stuck watching other teams celebrate championships every year.

No emotions, but rationality is important and your proposal has none of that.

If by some strange events Lecavalier signs in Ottawa...

Then I would only imagine that the trade bait would be Zibanejad, Z.Smith, the pick, prospects.

Michalek - Spezza - Ryan/Eriksson/??
Silfverberg - Lecavalier - Alfredsson
Greening - Turris - Conacher
Condra - JGP - Neil
Kassian

Karlsson - Methot
Cowen - ??
Gryba - Phillips
Wiercioch

Trading Turris for a Dman, MAY demonstrate the presence of balls, but it DEFINITELY demonstrates the absence of brains...

Why? I get that people see a lot of potential in Turris, and I certainly see some of it, but we have yet to see it translate in to results. He had the same amount of points this year as he did the year before that. Lecavalier has proven that he can score, has won a championship and has a ton of professional experience.

If you can sign Lecavalier and parlay a young signed asset like Turris in to a top 4 defenseman, an organizational need, then why does this make no sense? Because Turris is young? You still get to keep Zibanejad, Silfverberg et al in the fold.

A big, french Candian centre ... wait ... Frederick Gauthier??? Oh ... Lacavalier ... he's good too. My bet is he signs with the Florida Panthers to mentor Huberdeau. Not having to leave the State of Florida may be appealing to him.

I would keep Zbad over Turris at this point. Contrary to what I said this morning, I thought about it and dig Vinny here now. Vinny at #2, Zbad to #3. Use Turris in part to get a #3 D. Lecavalier represents a MASSIVE upgrade over Turris.

Edit - and then we still have Smith/Pageau at #4.

I believe all of these guys (13 forwards) are signed for next season. Who do you see as being traded or waived or moved out to make room for any new players Ottawa might acquire for next season? Lecavalier would make 14 forwards for next season someone has to go, who? Or who else doesn't play?

Alfredsson is not signed, Kassian is useless, JOB is in the doghouse as far as we can tell.

Smith is a dime a dozen player.

What problem?

They are signed to something called contracts which obliges teams to pay them. Exactly how much over budget do you think Melnyk will allow BM to go or better put how happy will Melnyk be to pay players not to play? Somebody will have to be moved although I could see JOB being placed on waivers, he seems to be the new Brian Lee.

Turris is 23(?) and has progressed nicely for us since he's been here. He was an excellent playoff performer for us and has a ton of room to progress. He is already a #2 centre in the NHL. Zib and Silf are not on Turris' level yet... I disagree that we haven't seen results, perhaps it's your expectations that are flawed?

For a team like ours that lacks skill up front, and is needing top 6 players far more than a top 4 dman, the suggestion that we thin out an area of need right after signing Lecavalier seems silly, we need to ADD offensive skill, not replace one with another. We are an excellent defensive team that has trouble scoring, so lets reduce the amount of skill up front in exchange for more D! Makes no sense to me.

Erik, Mark, Jared, Patty, and Chris will be fine on D, Ceci, Boro, Gryba, and the rest will get their chances... If we want to add another top D man, we have a ton of high level prospects to offer up in trade rather than a core piece like Turris.

Since we're not getting Vinny, it's best to get back on the Turris wagon given that he'll likely be our #2 centre for a long time...

Thing about Vinny as an agent point out is that he wants to go back to Tampa. Meaning he will probably sign a 1 year deal and return next year to them.

My expectations are flawed? He had a 21 game goal-less streak and a 13 game goal-less streak this past season. He scores his goals and points in bunches and had no consistency. So how does that make him "already a second line center in the NHL"? Because he got force fed a steady diet of top line minutes because of injury?

I like the kid. I like what he can potentially bring to the table. But I also know what Lecavalier can bring to the table and I'd rather have him and use Turris as a chip to address other areas of need.

He did what your talking about as a first line center. Turris is expected to break out this year after spending all that time as our first line center.

Expectations are high for him this upcoming season tbh. Turris is a long term solution here at a small cap hit, lecalvier

we have 4 strong starting centers(Spezza, Turris, Zibanejad, Smith) as it is plus Pageau, and a couole prospects. it's really just not worth it.

Can't edit so i just redid it.

I'd rather we go after Brière who doesn't create much of a bottleneck by coming into the Sens lineup. He'll be cheaper too. Lecavalier is still a decent center and if we weren't so stacked center-wise I'd definitely go after him though.

It's been stated by not only his agent but Vinny himself that he wants a long-term deal with the team he signs with and that his playing career is done in Tampa.. however he wants to return once he's done playing hockey to raise his family.
