Gardiner is too soft to play for Toronto (downy soft - loses puck battles to players who are 40 pounds/8 inches smaller)

If DeKeyser has a better defensive game and is not as soft I would certainly take him.

Toronto had John Michael Liles. They currently have Bozak and Gardiner. All of them are legends in The Soft Player Hall of Fame.

I accept this trade proposal.

So you don't actually have any evidence?

Lol DeKeyser.

The interest level would be nonexistent from Toronto's standpoint.

Your coach loves DeKeyser....

I don't think either team does this. But for Toronto fans to scoff at the idea they would be interested in DeKeyser go read press clippings of where Babcock calls DeKeyser an elite NHL defender in his own end and praises him a ton. Heck Babcock put DeKeyser on the PP while we all screamed about it, he likes him that much.

I don't think there is much more offense in DeKeyser and I am not a huge fan of his contract. With that said what he provides isn't something Gardiner can provide to Detroit at all. The Wings are going all in on DeKeyser and are huge fans, he isn't for sale for what is his real value. This deal just doesn't make a whole lot of sense in division. The Wings need to flip forward depth for a defender, not involve their best defensive defender to help improve the back-end.

Jake Gardiner's career PPG is like .04 more per game than DeKeysers. Factor in Gardiner's PP TOI and what not.. Add in the defense.. There's no way you can call Gardiner the superior player.

As you seem to imply as well, I don't really trust all of Babcock's personnel decisions and I hope the GM'S wouldn't make this trade, but it is always possible and it would be a bad trade.

I don't see the point of this for the Leafs..

DeKeyser/Gardiner are in the same tier of players if we were to create a pyramid. My opinion isn't necessary on which one is better etc. For that reason alone I don't see either team making a lateral swap.

I'd like to see another season of Kapanen before making judgements. He's pretty fresh into North American hockety and will be looked upon as a core player for the Marlies. I'd rather just let him cook in the crockpot

No it isn't considering he's going to be on our top pairing, That's a pretty reasonable contract.

The position he plays on your team should not determine his value. If he's a second pairing guy he should be paid like one. It's like me saying Bozak has a great contract because he's been the leafs 1 number center for the past couple years

The Red Wings need to add a D, not get a slightly better one and send one the other way.

Lolno.

Why in the world would the Leafs downgrade their D-core, and then throw in the best prospect to boot? Awful trade.

I'd do it. Even though I think both Saarijarvi and Turgeon are underrated among most Wings fans. Like them both.

I like Kapanen a lot, and I think Gardiner and Dekeyser are somewhat comparable, but I like Gardiner's play style better as a fit for us.

Kap was the center piece in the Kessel deal, extremely valuable

Turgeon projects as a top 6 center

Saarijärvi is highly regarded by the Finnish National program as a future top flight defender with a bomb of a shot

Yeah some of the scouts are already comparing Saarijarvi to Sami Vatanen, If Saarijarvi can become our Vatanen i will be extremely happy.

this is a wash...

when it comes to prospect, at first glance I'd take Kapanen over both Red Wings but my gut feelings are calling BUST on all 3... so was there as well.

With all that being said, you now need to look at contracts...
I prefer Gardiner's situation, so Leafs lose that one

Gardiner being bad defensively is my favourite meme

I understand Leafs fans not wanting to do this deal, and as a Wings fan neither do I

It doesn't solve anything for either team
