The fact he was demoted before is concerning. The fact the coach promoted because he thought he had legs is too. Ideally, the coach doesn't demote him, and ideally he doesn't need to "look like he had his legs" as the reason he was promoted.

The biggest difference in Marner game last night? Last night? he was pro-active. He was pretty agressive on forechecking and didn't wait the play come to him. He took risk, forced mistake from team usa and its pay off. He was all over the ice tonight

First 3 he was passive and didn't really go on forechecking, just waiting to be in good defensive situation without never taking any kind of risk. So had be pretty invisible

I’m glad someone can notice the difference in a seven game series that will be a problem let’s hope he can dial in the gold medal for game 1 til it ends

Still not worth more than mstheed but hes gonna get paid well

Meh, I think Marner and Matthews lack of leadership abilities were apparent in the tourny. The Tkatchuks, Crosby, Mackinnon and Mcdavid looked like true leaders.

Can't underestimate what it does for the team to see Mackinnon, Mcdavid crashing the net, battling physically, shoving opponents and showing the desperation they do in each game. I was impressed how often Crosby, Mackinnon and Mcdavid were around the goalie.

McDavid and MacKinnon were assertive, but also frequently careless. There is an immaturity in their games and I struggle to consider them true leaders. Hero puck, looking off teammates, turning it over because they were trying to do too much. McDavid was also pretty bad in the finals until the GWG (kind of like Marner against Sweden)

Crosby and Matthews wore the C's well. Quietly responsible, playing the right way, knowing when it was their moment to gun for it or to use their teammates. Matthews advanced stats were also pretty remarkable. His line dominated play throughout the game and tournament at large. If he was healthy things could have ended differently.

Impressed with both Leafs in the final game. hope Marner and particular gets a lot of confidence from it

He was demoted for 1.5 games out of 4 by the coaching staff...and Marner fans are celebrating like it didn't happen. He looked meh in game 1-3.

Everything we seen from Marner in the tourny is the exact reason sides are divided.

Agree with the fact Marner was playing too conservative in prior games. It’s like he was afraid to make a mistake. Also seemed like he was always the first one off for a line change. He also just didn’t gel with McDavid. McDavid likes to hold on to it and to it himself quite a bit, as opposed to using his linemates.

It was pretty similar to the other USA game outside of the fights in the first 10 seconds. It was a big moment, high pressure, passionate, tight checking game, that looked exactly like a game 7 playoff game.

That's literally what just happened.

Lol. You guys will go to any length to dismiss what he does. He's good at generating open space for himself and taking advantage of it, but he didn't "peel off into safe open space". He skated into the middle of the offensive zone and drew multiple opponents to him on his first primary assist. On the second, it's his job to grab the pass around the boards. He did, and made a great pass to the slot. He also went to the net a bunch, but there's also more places on the ice you can be effective from, and some people don't seem to get that. He's earned top tier money. I don't know where you got Knies at 10.5m from. That would be a crazy overpayment.

For me it's HOW he's playing. I don't care about the stat sheet, he's competing and willing to hit and take hits to make a play. He's getting in on the forecheck, these are things he wasn't doing pre-Berube.

Yeah I get that, I'm just saying I felt the same two years ago. I don't remember exactly what was, looking more confident, shooting the puck more, whatever it was I just thought that this time around for sure we'd see him play great in the playoffs because he looked different somehow.
