Post-Game Talk: Leafs win in OT 4-3

On 1st goal he gave away da puck in his own end and then skated up ice without paying defense any attention at all .. he did not have his head on a swivel and was completely one sighted .. Hughes skated right past him and he completely missed on even seeing him .. I watched him very closely .. in fact I spent this game focused on his every shift which I do occasionally .. this is not how a professional defenseman operates .. he needs to be moved up front or traded asap .. he was da sole reason why that game went to OT .. and he produced nothing on offense to make up for da 2 goals where he was largely at fault .. bottom line is he can't play in da playoffs .. we need to start looking at him as a healthy scratch .. my best guess is he won't be playing pro hokey inside 2 years .. he is near da end
Totally agree. He’s not an NHL defenseman. He’s a complete liability defensively and now that his offense is no longer a factor he’s a huge problem especially at his cap hit. With his full NMC, they may need to buy him out which actually saves them $20M on the cap over the next five years based upon the way his contract is structured.

I also want to point out that Berube did step out a bit and gave the 4th line around 5 minutes.. big deviation from where we had been. He did not rely on Kampf or Lorentz for PK either... they got a pretty good benching.

Lorentz error on the 1st goal no doubt contributed to that.

Pacioretty might have played the most anonymous 11 minutes I have ever seen. Or not seen.

A win is a win.
Need to build on that.
They still don’t play as structured as the beginning of the season.
Bérubé needs to coach them back to that if they want any successes in the playoffs.

100% he is. I don’t think we lose anything with him over Muzzin.

Yes.

Oh man. Healthy muzzin was a monster.

He would crush people and score big goals and shut down.

Muzzin was our best all round D man since who knows when. The 15 games of leetch we had?

The deuce is in the bag, the boys showed some signs of life. More importantly they looked like they're shaking off the mid season slumber and are pretty close to getting past all the injuries. The Tavares injury might could be stretched out till the end of 4nations and having him fresh as a daisy and at full health for the stretch run, plus maybe a signature. Stolie is close to returning and if we get the same guy back we're going to be in good shape.

Anyways it's in the rearview with 401 East laid out in front of the windshield. They need to be sharp and figure out how to nbreak the DeBoer trap that StLouis has Montreal playing. Not that I want to see it but get ready for a mind numbing 3 periods Saturday, what I'd rather see is the Bud's running rampant over and blowing up Montembault in the first and humiliating Dombas in the second and third. And maybe Caber catches Caulfield with his head down.

Oh and one more thing.....

GLG!
Montembault won't play because that Dobes kid has just won 4 straight after he beat Dallas tonight. His GAA is under 1 and save % over .960

Glad for the win but a game like this tells you all you need to know about Willy.
He screws around for the last 10 games, makes a dumb comment in the presser, takes some heat about it then turns it on simply because he feels like it.
He could be so much more if he simply bothered to show up more nights then he does
I know. It’s not Rocket Science and he’s not exactly a Rocket Scientist.

Question. Is there another good place to get post game interview videos. Nhl.com keeps loading the wrong videos. Today Berube is really Marners last week they loaded Nylanders to Berube.

Lots of players have kids during their career. Is that supposed to be an excuse for his piss poor play or strictly anecdotal ?

That's interesting because I've wondered about this too. How does a guy 6'1 who is 225 lbs have such a muffin shot?

Here’s a shot of the stick rack. I just remember it being more of a forward friendly length whereas a lot of the other Dmen on the team had the extra length for defending. Look how much longer Gio, McCabe and Muzzin and then Rielly’s beside Tavares.

No idea about his shot, but when I think of guys like John Carlson, John Klingberg, OEL, even Jake Gardiner, they seemed to have whippier shots and long defensemen sticks. I have a Kaberle pro stock at home and it’s short too.

With Rielly, visually it looks like his stick is too stiff or something when he shoots it. It just looks weird.
