I would say they worked harder than they had been in the first 2. Were the better team, agreed. But that intensity on the 3rd is the real difference maker.

Special teams are still a problem. If the PK goes cold, yikes!
Berube for sure yelled at them around the 10 min mark of the 3rd, as they all had magic horseshoes... except Rielly, who still aims at ankles.

To be fair, they weren't playing with much intensity until the 3rd. If they played like that for a full 60, they'd rarely lose imo. Even with average goaltending.

A lot of these guys are so good that when they add that intensity it makes such a difference.

McCabe matters!

This game feels like a Sheldon Keefe era classic and kind of appropriate with him in the building. Sleepy start, up and down game, leaky goaltending, then flip the switch into party mode in the last 10-15 and win it on all-hero efforts. You obviously take the win and production from the big stars Matthews, Nylander, Marner... but there's something scary about that. The belief you can flip the switch whenever you want.

If we could keep that switch on for the majority of the playoffs we might win a cup.

I didn't see that. Good on him if he did.

Rielly is a terrible passer. Period. Not going to change. He has to find a way to be better with the puck.

I always find it weird watching the puck come off Rielly's stick. It always comes off kind of dead and askew whether it's a pass or a shot, like his stick has a crack in it or the blade isn't glued into the old school aluminum shaft or something. Maybe it's a flex thing. I think I've seen them at Real Sports and they're really short.

What haunts me about these party finishes is how they came back 0-3 vs CBJ in Game 4 and then there was just nothing in Game 5, just the fear that switch won't work when you really put yourself behind.

From a process narrative I guess it would be more satisfying to see them come out like the old San Jose Sharks used to and try to TKO an opponent the first 10 minutes of a game, especially at home.

It's just not them, I guess.
