Woll was beat clean on that shot in OT. Saved by the post.

The leafs did not deserve to win this game, but take the two points and move on. Hopefully Stolarz is ready to go. ASAP

Well, NJ didn't finish, so eff em.

But I didn't like what I saw in that Woll sequence, I think there was an extra scramble and the puck went up high and he had no idea where it was.

Stolarz needs to be back ASAP so we can at least get back into a platoon stance, I don't know if Woll can bring A+ quality over so many games.

What haunts me about these party finishes is how they came back 0-3 vs CBJ in Game 4 and then there was just nothing in Game 5, just the fear that switch won't work when you really put yourself behind.

From a process narrative I guess it would be more satisfying to see them come out like the old San Jose Sharks used to and try to TKO an opponent the first 10 minutes of a game, especially at home.

It's just not them, I guess.
I really think you guys are overthinking this. The division, and arguably the conference, stinks. The Leafs will end up in the Cup final this year despite their shortcomings, and I wouldn't be surprised if they beat this Jersey team in the conference final to get there.

Woll is NOT it. He is not even a back up. He just has to go man.

As soon as Stolarz is back, we will see a completely different Toronto Maple Leafs team. Woll just takes the wind out of their sails. Everybody is playing nervous with him in goal.

Glad for the win but a game like this tells you all you need to know about Willy.
He screws around for the last 10 games, makes a dumb comment in the presser, takes some heat about it then turns it on simply because he feels like it.
He could be so much more if he simply bothered to show up more nights then he does

Rielly can never be out there on the PK. In 12 years in the league he’s never put any opponent on their ass in front of the net. On the second NJ PP goal he was sweeping the ice in front of Woll like he was in the Briar while two NJ players banged away at it.
On 1st goal he gave away da puck in his own end and then skated up ice without paying defense any attention at all .. he did not have his head on a swivel and was completely one sighted .. Hughes skated right past him and he completely missed on even seeing him .. I watched him very closely .. in fact I spent this game focused on his every shift which I do occasionally .. this is not how a professional defenseman operates .. he needs to be moved up front or traded asap .. he was da sole reason why that game went to OT .. and he produced nothing on offense to make up for da 2 goals where he was largely at fault .. bottom line is he can't play in da playoffs .. we need to start looking at him as a healthy scratch .. my best guess is he won't be playing pro hokey inside 2 years .. he is near da end

There is no world in which Rielly is going to be a healthy scratch. He tends to I'm fact be one of their better players once the playoffs come.

The deuce is in the bag, the boys showed some signs of life. More importantly they looked like they're shaking off the mid season slumber and are pretty close to getting past all the injuries. The Tavares injury might could be stretched out till the end of 4nations and having him fresh as a daisy and at full health for the stretch run, plus maybe a signature. Stolie is close to returning and if we get the same guy back we're going to be in good shape.

Anyways it's in the rearview with 401 East laid out in front of the windshield. They need to be sharp and figure out how to nbreak the DeBoer trap that StLouis has Montreal playing. Not that I want to see it but get ready for a mind numbing 3 periods Saturday, what I'd rather see is the Bud's running rampant over and blowing up Montembault in the first and humiliating Dombas in the second and third. And maybe Caber catches Caulfield with his head down.

Oh and one more thing.....

GLG!

I always find it weird watching the puck come off Rielly's stick. It always comes off kind of dead and askew whether it's a pass or a shot, like his stick has a crack in it or the blade isn't glued into the old school aluminum shaft or something. Maybe it's a flex thing. I think I've seen them at Real Sports and they're really short.
That's interesting because I've wondered about this too. How does a guy 6'1 who is 225 lbs have such a muffin shot?

Man - I have many, many bones to pick with Rielly. His defending and his O zone play can drive me crazy. He's overpaid. He has more often than not one of our best players in the playoffs due to his ability to lug the puck.

Maybe that will decline this year too but he's not going to be a healthy scratch and he's most certainly not playing up front.

The 1st goal he put the puck into an area the Leafs wanted it.. to try and get a bypass from the winger and pre activated the weak D (Tanev).. Lorentz didn't get it done. Rielly should be more ready for a turnover but many teams coach their last player out of the zone to linger around the net. That goal is not all Rielly.

That's what we're all clinging to hope for. Nice if we could start getting some assists soon, but I'm sure they'll come.
