Hard to believe our #1 PP is worse than our #2 PP. We've had what 3 or 4 new PP coaches in the past 4 years and the same shitty results. At some point somebody needs to wake up and admit it is a personnel problem.

They have been a real contender for the last 5 years, but have had problems winning game 7 in the playoffs..

There’s a big difference between a real contender and a supposed contender.

There’s one very important thing that real contenders actually do… and that’s contend. The Leafs haven’t managed to do that yet.

Both goalies were bad. Marner had 0 pts and 1 shot until Greiss gave him a gift to change the narrative.

Seemed like the hit woke JT out of whatever was slowing him down to start the season.
Not gunna lie. When jt was slow to get up I felt this feeling of dread from last year

Another message sent ??

That to me is more a testament to improved and learned coaching, rather than simply tossing Matthews and Marner out there for 22-24 minutes and night.

Keefe is recognizing if you play your defensive and checkers to help reduce goals against that is better than try to outscore your mistakes as your only strategy.

The Tavares line was rolling so they earned their ice-time and so seeing Kampf get additional icetime to secure a win and Matthews line missed a few shifts in the 3rd seemed like an attempt at coaching to win. There is certainly increased pressure on management to deliver so they had better up their games as well.

Agree Tavares' line deserved more TOI last night and Matty's line should be playing fewer minutes but I also believe Matthews' line skipped at least one turn last night. Matty was weak behind the goal on one Wings goal and Willie looked like a blind man/pylon on another Wings goal.

Don't you yourself say that it's the playoffs that matter, not the regular season?

Every game matters, it's just that playoff games matter so much more. I believe I said something like in the end I will judge this team about 90% based on how they do in the playoffs. Of course they have to get there first so there is that. But I'm not handing out final grades now and if you agree that they should be judged by how they do in the playoffs then you should also agree that now's not the time to bitch about this, that and the other thing. If Marner plays well and gets PPG in the playoffs while playing well defensively then he'll get tons of praise from me, even if he only puts up 60 points during the regular season and same goes for all the other players as well. On the other hand, if you don't show up to compete in elimination games, I don't care how you played during the season, you will not be getting a good grade from me.

Does that help?

Liljegren has shown he belongs in the show. Last night as many have remarked was his best game. Dermott IMO was not very good. Stop mucking around and move Dermott to the reserve 7thD or trade him.

Rielly needs a strong RHD to carry his D play so he can focus on offence. Brodie provides that.

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin Liljegren
Sandin Holl

Although Holl has been bad I believe the easier matchups and minutes will help his game. Have a fleet footed Sandin will also help. Give this line up 15 games with Dermott subbing into 3/4 for Holl.

No the childish thing is the fake leaf fans on here trolling people it’s ok to have a opinion but negative after negative posts it’s quite sad
No you just proved my point People have an opinion people like you bitch and whine Look your minions right behind you obviously your rage shows what you are lol

We won 5-4 last night

Missed the game again but looking at the scoresheet, I hope we arnt making a huge mistake in splitting Marner and Matthews up.

Most people would probably say the best line in the league the last 3 years has been the so-called "perfection" line but the Leafs top line was just as potent and it feels to me like we are handcuffing Matthews as he doesnt just lose his left winger but also his right winger who is one of the best setup guys in the league.

Over the last 3 years 5v5:

Pasta/Bergeron/Marchand:
xGF%: 60.51
Goal differential: 62.08 (4.08/60 for - 2.49/60 against)

Hyman/Matthews/Marner:
xGF%: 59.54
Goal differential: 62.87 (4.07/60 for - 2.4/60 against)

(Matthews/Marner also 59.55 xGF% and 61.88% goal differential with all left-wingers)

The top 4 are all great players of course and will gel better as the games go on but it still seems a bit odd to me.

Uhhh Matthews should be able to drive a line on his own (and everyone knows he can) Marner is a better fit stylistically with Tavares and brings some much needed speed to any line with JT on it if I'm being honest :

Bunting-Matthews-Kase (just a tough all around line to play against)
Marner-JT-Kerfoot (Offense and speed on the wings)
Nylander-Spezza-Engvall (low key 3rd line that can take advantage of other teams 3rd lines)
Simmonds-Kampf- Ritchie (these guys can be moved throughout the lineup depending on the situation)

I don't think about contracts when it comes to deployment, we have 4 guys who can drive a line and we should be taking advantage of that by giving some of them favorable matchups where ever possible worried about JT line and Matty line, well that means Nylander gets more room to move, old man time (spezza) and Nylanders line running hot well you're going to have to choose whether to worry about Matty's line or JT's line as well...very few teams in this league can run 3 lines to the quality we can (as much as we can complain this is the truth)

2 points is 2 points.

But with a 1 goal lead, a PP, a face off in the o zone, and 12 seconds on the clock.......how does the puck end up in the d zone with another shot against?

It's the little things
