That might be me. Here's why.

Leafs defeating an opponent whom they are heavily favoured to smack down are not games I care to get emotionally invested in. Leafs are supposed to win these as a matter of rote. NEXT. Crowing and chest-thumping after beating up the disabled is ridiculous.

Leafs lose a close hard fought emotional game, I can take that without spewing vitriol. Upset a Cup favourite and it's time to put the drinking shorts on. But lose in a bewildering, "typical Leafs for the last 50 years" ugly way to an underdog deserves biting comment.

Now go put me on your block list.
It was 1 game where we lost by 1 goal, where a freak injury to one of our best players occurred. A lot of the reactions were hilariously silly. Chicken little stuff but it's not surprising, some Leaf fans seem to follow the team just to be perpetually mad about something. Nice martyr cosplay at the end lol

I TOLD YA'LL we was going to prevail and win it hard in the dirty second! I TOLD IT EARLIER, RIGHT AFTER GAME 2. I KNEW FOLIGNO WAS GOING TO STEP UP HARD AND TAKE THAT PLACE. He surely did

We are now EVEN STRONGER and MORE UNITED after the tavares thang. I also wrote this down and KNEW IT BEFORE EVERYBODY. You have to know about life and chess in general to see all the right puzzle peaces moving. Hard. Now our players care for each other EVEN MORE. This made us UNSTOPPABLE.

One of the most important thangs was though: I KNEW ALL OF THIS RIGHT AFTER THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. I was right. WE ARE NOW THE MOST SUPERIOR ONES: THE RIGHTEOUS ONES.

This bounce back game was more of a statement than just a win, and it is encouraging. Rarely in the last four years have the Leafs bounced back with a statement game. It wasn't just grinding out a win, it was imposing their will and game style on another team. Telling the world, "this is how we can play". When they play that way, they are a force to be reckoned with.

I was really impressed with the collective compete and the waves of Leafs who were in hard on the puck, mucking it up, falling to the ice and getting back up in a second. I was particularly impressed with the Vintage Line, all three of them were active this game. It's like the light switched on, "it's playoff hockey time".

Simmonds and Thornton in particular seemed to just be wherever the puck was. Battling along the boards, helping pin the Habs in, throwing a check, getting to the net. Both were bodies on the PP that create trouble and/or force the Habs to use resources on them.

I've said it many times, when players see other guys going hard every shift, it's contagious. Role players are often responsible for a higher weighted contribution to a teams playoff success. Leafs need their stars to show up, but it's a team game. No one player is going to win it all.

one thing I noticed about Sandin's goal was that it kind of looked like Carey was cheating to Matthews side as if he was anticipating Sandin one touching it to Matthews for the 1T. Not to take anything away from Rasmus' shot, but he beat him dead in the middle of the net. He was only able to get it past Price because he was out of position. What I am getting at, is this is clearly how the Canadians have pre-scouted our PP. If you look earlier in the game on the PP when Matthews had a 1T and ran it along the ice, Price read that play like a book. Matthews would have had to hit an impossible shot to have beaten Carey there. But then again Auston is one of the only players on the planet that can find whatever hole you give him.

Point being, I really liked how they worked that puck to Sandin there. If he can get a couple more of those through, regardless of them going in, it will widen the lane for Matthews. The PK'ers will not be able to cheat. More importantly, Carey won't be able to cheat. Only risk is, he can't have it get blocked in the umbrella system. He is our only guy back, and he will have to be careful not to have it go the other way should it get blocked. But early indications show that he knows when to shoot. Almost all of his shots got through

Fact anyone can find issue with Dubas' reaction is embarrassing. Players see that, it's going to make you want to either stay a Leaf, or become a Leaf. Being human and caring about your players/their families is a huge selling point. I know it would be for me. Some moments call for you being a friend first, and a boss second

The fact that Dubas' initial instinct was to get as much information as possible so he could contact Tavares' wife personally says a lot. This is the dude who spent his holidays in the hospital with Mikheyev, so Mikheyev wouldn't be alone.

Heck, just look at the trades he made with Leivo, Lehtonen, Barabanov, and to some extent, Marchment, etc to give them better opportunities elsewhere they couldn't get here.

Dubas doesn't see players as just pieces on a chess board like a lot of people in sports management.

It's honestly refreshing.

Love the phrase “martyr cosplay.”

So glad the boys pulled through on this one.

HUGE statement game that swings the momentum the other way.

Called a 5-1 win after that disappointing start (had to throw that in there)

Still would like to see more from Mitch, and really hope Campbell can continue his solid play.. Still makes me nervous with his control, but much less so than Freddy.

3 more dubs to get rid of that monkey.

How many people like the Hip because they're a 'good band' and not because 'muh good old Canadian boys!'? Their last passable record was Trouble at the Henhouse 25 years ago.

I was told in the playoffs 'when the refs put the whistles away the Leafs will be in trouble!', there's been more penalties called in the first two games than ever during the RS.

Penalty disparity or not, the Leafs punted the Habs - faceoff domination, outshot them, less giveaways, PP lethal again. This game resembled one of their RS games, where the Habs were able to cobble together a few good 5-7 minute stretches, but mostly tried and failed to contain the Leafs.

If the PP can get to even a 20% rate for the series the Habs are in even deeper shit than they already are. They were extremely lucky to win game one, you won't get three(!) delay of game penalties and two backbreaking brain farts from Sandin and Thornton every game.

Matthews 1-2-3 being a star, Marner dishing, Willy continues to rise to the occasion - star power, you need that shit.

Hear that? That's the sound of people hating on Morgan Rielly, almost as loud as the people gagging on McDavid's c**k.

Jack probably could have played the final 50 minutes of this game in his plain clothes.

Huge bounce back game from Ras nasty Ras, boomer from the point and heads up with the puck all day.

Kerfoot, Spezza, Wayne, Engvall and Joe with that big dick energy all game.

...

What was that challenge? The Habs goal was more worthy of a challenge than Joe flapping his stick at Price.

On Price - he was not very good. No shot on the Spezza goal, but he put that rebound on a platter for Matthews, tried to cheat and got burned on the Sandin goal and was swimming for the Willy goal.

'Heart and soul' Brendan Gallagher, more like complete non-factor Brendan Gallagher.

Are the Habs not playing CC because they saw how many times he got forced off the puck with one hand in the RS by Mo, Muzzin and Brodie?

I've not seen many players who's effect level varies as wildly as Anderson's. He was a beast in game one, and a non-factor today. If he had a hockey IQ over 55 he'd be a star.

That said, this still isn't a slam dunk; lots of Habs players lurking in the weeds - Petry, Suzuki, Danault, Tatar etc., have done jack but won't stay quiet forever.

Probably the same clowns who said similar shit when he stayed with Soup after that awful wrist ligament injury last year in jersey.
Sometimes (all times) real life comes before the show.

Our 1st PP would be much better with Nylander in Marners spot. Put Marner on the 2nd unit. He plays a lot of PK minutes and Matthews and Nylander don't so give them more PP minutes, especially when they have way better shots. If anything, just move Marner from the left boards spot and either in the bumper spot or the front of the net. Anywhere except where he's at now.

I got to admit Campbell has looked a lot more "Scrambly" than in the regular season. Perhaps he had added pressure because he still hadn't had a playoff victory. Although he has been in a lot of pressure games throughout his life. Thankfully he didn't need a miraculous save to keep us in games. I think our team D has been fantastic, the best I've seen from any team this playoff year.

Was very critical of the team after game 1 and for good reason. They did not look like the team that just topped the division. They did not look like a team with star power, with a Rocket Richard winner on their roster, like a team that wanted to win more than their opponent.

Last night they did. A fantastic effort all around. Please more of that Leafs and on we go now into game 3...

FEELS BETTER

I wonder how dominant an Engvall - Matthews - Mikheyev line would be. That combination of size, speed and skill would be almost impossible to contain.

I remember when the Raptors went on their run and won Game 1 of the finals and just walked off the court. It was all business and they had their focus on the next one, then the next one. I feel the same way about the Leafs. This is a good first step but it's take the next one, the next one, close out the series, get the monkey off the back, rinse and repeat. I liked the way Spezza said they have to keep winning in order to see John again.

Agreed on Campbell. Could be some nerves.

As long as he doesn't let in that squeaker that makes you doubt your tendy as a team, I think he can get it done.

Team D has been fantastic overall.

Sounds weird to say we're a good defensive team.
