Was hoping we'd keep it to 2 goals against. Don't look now but outside the first two games, we've only surrendered 13 goals against in the last 6, one of which was an empty netter, so we are hovering around the 2.00 GAA the last 6.

THIS is what I want to see us focus on this season. Yes, it will come at some expense to our offense but we know we have above average offense. If we can commit to driving the GA down, it will go a long ways towards success. Pretty much every year your top teams in the playoffs are among the best offenses AND the best defenses.

Keep it up boys.

P.S. Didn't look to verify but it seems we've been doing a much better job on shots against. Most years it is 30+ every night. Yup, just looked and we are 7th best at 27.0

Dominate first. Nothing to say about that. All 4 lines rolled and played so well.

Weird second. Calgary came back with speed and the Leafs started to get beat to the puck and in races. While the shot clock was tilted, Toronto had a number of high quality chances, mostly off the rush, that didn't register a shot. But Calgary did get a ton of pucks to the net. Freddy was great.

Missed the third. Sounds like it was more of the same as the second. Not surprised to see Calgary get the edge in PP's and tie it on a PP goal. Awesome to see Marner with the GWG and Matthews with an assist.

Matthews and Marner were flying last night .. JT and Willy were too, just couldn't find the net.. The third line had some moments (that first goal was really nice), and the fourth line was a nice refreshing boost.

Engvall is a sneaky good versatile player. Heck of a pass on Boyd's goal.

Depth scoring is key. Really happy to get 2 regulation wins in Calgary. Put them behind and keep the Leafs ahead of the pace.

Also, lol Muzzin. Tkachuk deserved it, and his tantrum was hilarious.

Weird is one way of putting the 2nd. Most of the period it looked like we were down a man. I would have said at the end of the first that that was the most complete period i've seen this year from this group. I was not expecting the 2nd to be pretty much the exact opposite.

Still very much have my concerns with 5v5 play but they're getting wins albeit imperfect ones, and they deserve credit. Still a work in progress.

Great game!

Marner has won me back. Matthews is a monster. Mikheyev, although not scoring, is contributing in many ways. Engvall is good bottom 6 material. Simmonds is impressing me. Bogo, Brodie, and Holl - awesome. Andersen not in "October" form anymore. I also think that Vesey fits well with the 3rd line. I liked his game yesterday.

Tkachuk - hahaha! I forgot about another good way to deal with dullards like him: do something unexpected. Brilliant move by Muzzin. He knew that Tkachuk would not be able to deal with something of out left field, as his brain would not be able to process it. Worked like a charm. Tkachuk's lack of inhibitory control on full display on the bench. LOL

Yeah for sure. So nice to be winning so often while working on it, looking good so far indeed. If we're healthy we should be a handful in the playoffs as long as the goaltending holds up, still by far the biggest question mark for me.

Marner scoring the way he did was sweet, hopefully a sign of things to come and that move Muzzin pulled on gutless puke was of course the highlight of the year. :biglaugh::biglaugh:

Yeah. they get into the habit of puck chasing rather than staying on top of it. This require awareness of where your own players are at all time. Hopefully Keefe starts with the tape to correct some of this.
Cant say I disliked the play of anyone full game. That said, I'm not going to fall in love with any deployment. Some of these guys will eventually run cold and they will need swapping out.

No way the old version of this team sweeps Calgary. Something clicked after the loss to the Oilers. Rielly said he does not know what this team's identity was. Maybe this team is starting to build one.

Look, I don't want to be a buzzkill, but we need to be a lot better than we have been lately. The post Tkachuk tears hangover is hitting me, and I am recalling just how awful we were for 35 minutes of the game last night.

Its no secret we need to pick it up 5v5 (which that chart is showing) but the all situations chart certainly makes things look a bit better and, despite the injury issues, goaltending has started to look very solid.

Penalty differential is now 3rd worst in the league for our big bad Leafs too.

In a pretty good spot really as half our games have come against the other 3 teams in playoff spots ATM and we are 4-0 against them. I was worried we would be out of sorts early and lose a bunch of early points as the team got up to speed.
