the excuses you're making for Babcock are going from bad to worse. now Muzzin wasn't even a helpful piece because of the way he holds his stick? Just asinine

We couldn't play him where we needed to play him which is with Morgan Rielly. Is that truth or not?

Edit: also it wasn't like we were all of a sudden a massively better defensive team upon his arrival. The team played relatively the same. He brought something, he didn't have a negative net value. But we needed a top pairing shut down guy and in a lot of ways we still do lol

It's not true at all. If Rielly couldn't play with a left handed partner, why did he play with Hainsey? It's also irrelevant, as Muzzin doesn't need to play with Rielly to be a useful player

did I say anything about Rielly not being able to? I said Muzzin couldn't play the right side. Exactly to your point, when Rielly has a solid partner he plays much better. We were hoping the Muzzin trade would bring him that, but it didn't.

Babcock had no reason to bitch and moan about the acquisition of Muzzin, period.

maybe you're right. I just didn't hate babcock as much as other people did personally. I really like Keefe as a coach. But I think Dubas was a bit of a prick and brought a bunch of problems to the team. Babcock says we need a RHD to help Rielly and help our team defensively. Dubas gives him Muzzin and tells babcock to deal with it. When he tried to put Muzzin with Rielly and it didn't work people got mad at him lol.

I always try and put myself in other people's shoes. If my boss asks me what I need to be successful, i lay it out for him and he goes and does the opposite it would create tension lol.

this team was built to keep the puck. skate with the puck. pass the puck. controlled zone exits, controlled zone entries. that was the entire purpose.

and he made them play stretch pass breakouts, and dump in offense.

it was insane.

so insane, that I can't actually think Babcock was that stupid, so I can only surmise that he was trying to prove some kind of point.

besides Rielly and Gardiner our defense was atrocious and even those two make questionable plays. I think the plan was to limit the amount of time the defense has the puck, get into the offensive zone as quick as possible

*I'm not sure a team that employed a D corp that included: Hainsey, Polak, Zaitsev, Holl, Rosen and Marincin, can be considered a team that was invested in controlled zone exits and entries.
*I'd not considered that dynamic, it merits consideration.
*Does that suggest Lou and Babs were not on the same page?

I'll tell you everything wrong with the NHL based on last nights game.

You won't find too many more dominating performances than the Leafs had last night over the Jets, yet the PP's were 4-1 in the Jets favour.

How is that even possible?

You don't get caved in that much and not take any infractions.

This league is pathetic because it's all about game-management, they won't give a team that's winning or dominating calls consistently...

I try to avoid this type of interpretation, but...
Year after year, it is becoming a difficult thing to accept.

Most hockey players are left handed so bitching about having too many LHD's and too few RHD's is just dumb. And he had Holl right in front of him so not using him is on him.

I also don't understand the bolded part at all. Like not even a little bit.

On the subject of D in general, I used to keep hearing that Dubas "hasn't done anything to fix the defense". Maybe they should given the guy just a little bit of time because guess what, it looks like it might be totally and completely fixed. And funny, I haven't heard Keefe complain at all about having too few RHD's (or complain about anything else for that matter). :)

Maybe if Babcock had devoted more energy to coaching instead of bitching about the GM he'd still be here (perish the thought).

when the team gets a big physical defensive dman, and the coach mocks him and doesn't use him right, whose fault is it?
Wait? I would like to see the video of this. I do not think I have ever seen a coach mock his own player in public. I do not remember this incident? Show us.

gotta love thinking in retrospect. It would have been nice to give him time, but we all know the expectations were to win. Dubas has done a good job addressing the defense in present time. But Babcock had every right to complain about how shitty the defensive personnel was while he was there between Lou and Dubas. Hell that's all we did on these boards too

This is what he said in the presser when we got Muzzin, the best most physical dman added in all Babcock's time here:

“There’s no question about it: It’s not perfect, it’s what we got. It’s what was available and we’re going to make it work.”

like what the hell is that?

If Babs had issues relating to personnel, voicing those issues is completely fine but it should be done in private. Complaining to the media is petty and unprofessional. And again, complaining about too many left handed players regardless of what position they play is simply ignorant and he should know better.

Excellent question. The first answer that comes to mind is insubordination but maybe someone else has a better answer?

That sure as hell was not a mocking!!! To be mocked is to be treated with contempt and derision. I do not think you know what the word mocked means.

maybe, but the leafs knew that is how Babcock was.

lol if answering the question honestly is mocking then we are in big trouble

what coach greets a new major addition of an impact player by saying "ITS NOT PERFECT" ???

who does that?

sure sounds like derision to me. I've never heard a coach say anything like that about a new major addition ever. in any sport.

how is that an honest response to an addition like Muzzin?

what coach ever says anything like that even about a bad player added, let alone an excellent player like Muzzin?

not everyone thinks the same as each other my friend. If that's how he felt that's how he felt. He wanted a RHD, so he was probably disappointed. Just because it wasn't the response you would give to acquiring Muzzin, doesn't mean it wasn't honest.
