Big deal win on a b2b.
I suggest some posters stop taking shots at top players beyond fair comments for bad game play until they play at least 6 minutes in a game. It just ends up making you look stupid
But that’s what fun about the game thread.
We crap on the player then we praise them the next second. Lol.

Great song!

I am in shock that we won. That being said Anderson is not a SC winning goalie just like Campbell and I am so glad our management team identified that.

Jury is still out on Samsonov but he has looked great. Hopefully his injury is nothing major. Suspect Murray is bought out at the end of the season.

The fourth line was, obviously, a big part of that. ZAR-Kampf-Malgin continuing to play like this would be huge for this team. We haven't had a good 4th line throughout our competitive window. Unfortunately the 3rd line is still a problem. I still think some kind of trade is going to be needed to address that, although maybe someone like Steeves can step in later in the year.
Give these lines a good run, if it's still a problem and Caps/Blues are out of it make a player for one of Eller/Barbashev/Acciari early

  • 1st half of the game Leafs sleeping
  • latter part of 2nd period line changes
    • Kerfoot-Matthews-Nylander have a beastly shift
    • followed by Bunting-Engvall-Jankrok (GOAL)
    • Period comes to an end
  • 3rd period
    • pretty even-steven
    • Robertson makes a pass to marner to JT (GOAL)
    • Canes press hard
      • Kallgren up to the challenge makes some really solid saves
    • Leafs dead tired after an icing, matthews wins the board battle flicks the puck out, Nylander turns-on the after burners scores (GOAL)
  • Leafs win 3-1
That description of Nylanders goal doesn't do it justice. At the redine Nylander pushes the puck past the defender, he realizes he can't beat him so he let's off and coast to the puck in typical Nylander fashion. The puck skips on the Canes defender and Nylander sort of half-ass ties him up, kicking the puck above the hashmarks, the puck slowly slides between Andersens legs and into the net.

Honestly you could probably challenge that goal and have it called back.

Some nights you have to find a way to win games you maybe should not win. If you only ever win the ones you should, your season ends in the first round...

Great way to battle, force the Canes in the second half of the game and stay generally firm in our own end. Erik did what he had to do.

If you stick with it like that, keep battling, a bounce or two might happen to go your way, and because you are still so engaged in the game you can make something of it. If you quit, even if a bounce goes your way you'll never take advantage because you are not really in the play.

Don't need to see that every night, and cannot expect it, but, in a shit situation, it was really good to see them come with it... that was something I didn't expect, which I think is a good thing.

Great team-building weekend for the boys!!

That was the highlight of the game for me. The broadcast said it perfectly - Nylander had been on the ice for over a minute, he had no business going after that puck, could have just chipped it in and went to the bench but instead ... I still don't know how he won that battle and scored, the guy is crazy good!
I only saw the highlight and thought Willie was lucky and WTH was he doing flipping that puck and chasing it down.
Then read what you guys wrote and realized it was a long shift.
Really think he wanted to flip it in but saw the D losing position and the puck didn’t go as far as he wanted. So he chased it down and ended up scoring a great goal.

Amazing effort from the whole team, Robertson is a puck hound, a bit unfortunate on the his chance to score. Keep these lines for a while, Keefe.

Great win tonight and a huge test for the boys on Tuesday against Vegas. That'll be the third Top 5 team in 4 nights, and Vegas currently occupies the top spot after the Leafs beat Boston last night. Perhaps we could dethrone another?

I say LTIR Murray so he gets his full pay day and we get the full cap space.

being a back to back i was sure it was a loss but the boys made me happy great job fellers

...and he did it against Slavin, one of the best dmen in the NHL!

I guess the we play down and play up narrative based on opponents is true

Yep. Suddenly over the weekend - This is the team I recognized and saw last year beat the Bolts before they reversed our goal due to American network money. Psssh everyone knows this.

1. Hope this year our stars learn not to take the foot off the pedal. 5th years the charm maybe?
2. Our bottom six so far seems to be able to grind out plays and dig out pucks - They are finding chemistry and an identity. I hope this keeps building
3. Matthews being a very quiet yet solid 2 way player.
4. The speed of Marner and Nylander were very evident when they get ISO and can make plays... Keefe should keep em grounded with solid 2 way plays until real opportunities arrise. So far I like what I've seen VS Boston and Carolina.

5. I'm praying Kallgren becomes another cinderella story like Samsonov. And by the time we are in crunchtime, we have Samsonov as our clutch guy, Kallgren all settled in and walling up and Murray can be our wildcard goalie.

GLG!!!!

It would be hilarious if Kalgren ended the season with its solid numbers as our number one after all the hubbub about signing Samsonov and Murray and letting Jack go.
As long as the boys win the Cup, I don’t care who is in net. Lol
