It must be just habit. I used to smoke and for months after I had quit I kept reaching in my shirt pocket for the non existant pack of smokes.

I still step outside after a meal, and put the window down in the car.... Little pieces stick with you...

You know, another thing, I really like Mike Kostka. I know that he is given a lot of negative attention on these boards; but, for a career AHL'er to come in, eat minutes and be able to be thrown into any situation and be serviceable has really helped this blueline. He isn't flashy, nor is he great, just an extremely solid defender in any situation.

He's Gunnarson only tougher ;)

I think that Colton Orr was the Leafs best player. He was competing well and doing what it takes to stay to play minutes.

Not going to complain about a win, but no way they can show up like that on their next road trip.

It's just concerning that we played this way against a team that is clearly decimated by injuries. I had hoped we would have dominated them at least in shot totals.

Lupul
Gardiner
Gunnarson
Fratin
Reimer
am I missing anybody, ooops you meant Ottawa was decimated....

We won because we did a great job at killing penalties (including some weak calls) and capitalized on our scoring chances. But ottawa who looked like they were skating in quicksand for the first two periods and lost 3-0 somehow outplayed us... my god :help:

Ottawa was "skating in quicksand"? What game were you watching? Ottawa weren't playing an excellent game, but they were still playing better than the Leafs, controlling the play and running a good cycle. They had the better scoring chances over the first two periods. Scrivens made many solid saves over that time because the Sens were getting more chances.

And you do know that we have injuries too right? We're playing with guys whose names are Kostka, Fraser, Holzer AND playing Colton Orr with Kadri because Lupul/Frattin aren't options at this time.

Frattin was playing well, but he was a call up himself. We were playing Orr on the 3rd line and Kostka, Fraser and Holzer were our 4-6 defensemen. The Sens had AHL players on the 1st and 2nd lines and Lundin played the 3rd most time for their defense behind only Gonchar and Phillips, though Methot is probably better than any of our 3.

Regardless, our lineup was better on paper than theirs. That doesn't guarantee a win, of course, but most of the time when a team that's better on paper loses the game, it's because the other team played a much better game. We won because we only played a slightly worse game than the Sens, not because we played a good game.

We played well enough to win which we did.

I'll agree with that. Doesn't mean we weren't outplayed or played a good game, though.

There should NEVER be a call when a guy looks behind him, sees a guy coming, and turns his back. That is irresponsible, and reckless. There should be a penalty for not protecting your own safety, and moreover, being a complete idiot.

Hard to feel bad for a guy who does that.

I love the sens complaining about icing an AHL team. How long have we been doing this for?

The offence needs a shake up. I would consider the following:

Kulemin, Bozak, Kessel
JVR, Grabo, Brown
Komarov, Kadri, MacArthur
Orr, McClement, McClaren

* Players are not placed at proper positions; I'm just listing combinations

We really need Frattin back; especially Lupul.

CBC just hates us plan and simple. Hey, like someone said before, where was this amazing depth Ottawa was supposed to have? So they had to call guys up - BOO ****ING WHOOO .. Look at what we've had to do and the people that we've called up. They've played very well to this point.

It was refreshing tonight without Healy as the 3rd commentator -- he must have got yanked by CBC with all that negativity, although he did try his best to throw a few punches at the end during the session with the panel. I was shocked that Hughson and Simpson said many positive things about the Leafs tonight.

Hilarious how when we lose we're a sub par team who is terrible.. but when we win we're an all star team who should have "won better".

What game were you watching? The first 40 minutes, both teams looked slow on the ice including Ottawa! And these players you mention (Kostka, Fraser, Frattin, Holzer) - they were (and some still say are) AHL players, but guess what - they found a way to get it done which is what Ottawa's AHLers did not tonight. We are without our #1 goaltender, arguably two of our best forwards, and two of our better defensemen. We have Dion Phaneuf playing with Mike Kostka.

Good teams find ways to get it done which we've done through 15 games. Injuries happen, look at our team.

Orr playing that many minutes on Kadri's line was just painful. Something tells me Kadri is looking for deer antlers asap to give to Frattin. Brutal game to watch. 2 points is nice though.
