We win 5 out of 6 and we are missing some of out most important players. We didn't have the best game but we came out with a win.
We do we have to be so ****** negative after our second shutout in a week?:help:

we were good defensively
we kept them to the outside
scrivens saw pretty much everything and there were no dangerous rebounds or guys alone in front
those two 3 on 1s sucked- that was bad pinching

Dion really keeps impressing me. Not only do he make better and smarter plays in the offensive zone, he have also stopped getting caught puck watching in his own zone. It is like he some how all of a sudden really see the game the way a leader and #1 d-man should. It´s awesome. Probably our most improved player this season together with Kadri. Kadri have had better games but he looked a bit more lively after RC gave it to him on the bench. Good to see he reacted the right way.

The amount of criticism thrown at him for the majority of this season has been truly mind boggling for me. IMO this guy has been playing the best of defensive hockey of his career.

..and Gardiner. Yet all anybody mentions are Ottawa injuries:lol:

CBC just hates us plan and simple. Hey, like someone said before, where was this amazing depth Ottawa was supposed to have? So they had to call guys up - BOO ****ING WHOOO .. Look at what we've had to do and the people that we've called up. They've played very well to this point.

I love how some of the fans are being so picky

We're not the dynasty Leaf team that was just celebrated today or the dynasty Oilers....take every win you can get.

Leafs used to outshoot teams a ton under Ron Wilson's system and almost all of the shots were perimeter shots and then Wilson would say "Hot goalie," "Snakebitten," etc etc.

I'll take the 2 points. You guys can whine about being outshot though.

You know, another thing, I really like Mike Kostka. I know that he is given a lot of negative attention on these boards; but, for a career AHL'er to come in, eat minutes and be able to be thrown into any situation and be serviceable has really helped this blueline. He isn't flashy, nor is he great, just an extremely solid defender in any situation.

im more comfortable with phaneuf-holzer cuz of the size
kostka is fine against 2nd liners

Never critique a win.

You win some you shouldnt and lose some you deserve to win (1st game vs buffalo for instance). It happens. Take the 2 points and be happy.

Not taking anything away from Scrivens I just happen to be one of the few who thinks he's better than Reimer anyway it wasn't all Scrivens. Once again the things that most people don't see on this forum what size, strength and toughness on the back end is so valuable. Only Liles is a soft D men and the size, strength, toughness in Holzer, Frasor, Phaneuf, Kostka and Franson had just as much to do with the shut out as Scrivens did cause the front of the net is no longer a free pass to the other teams.

How many 2nd chances did Ottawa have? Not many and that's the reason why.

It's clear to me anyway what Nonis should be doing from now to the trade deadline and on to the draft. Forget about the over hyped RoR stay the course with patience, trade Gunnarson, Mac for picks if nothing better comes the Leafs way to replenish the graduation of full time Leafs in Kadri, Frattin, Holzer. When the soon to be Gardiner gets back where he belongs you could add Liles into the trade front.

The Leafs are becoming a TEAM and that's what wins in the NHL not because you have individual star players. Continuity is important, get rid of what isn't a fit and stay patient for the right deal or the right player become available to improve from trade or UFA. The right player isn't RoR period for what the cost is both in what the price is to get him and the type of contract he demands.

Scrivens stole us a game, and that is something I didn't expect. having said that I agree totally with what you said above. The defensive aspect of the game has improved incredibly. Tonight I thought I saw a lot of run and gun happening, but they always fell back defensively, and when the bad pinches happened the team hustled back and tried to cut off passing lanes and box out the Sens.

Still Scrivens, while still occasionally looking shakey, stole us that game and tipped the flow to our favour.

It's just concerning that we played this way against a team that is clearly decimated by injuries. I had hoped we would have dominated them at least in shot totals.

As I said in the GDT, Ugly wins are still wins. Ugly goals count too. Sometimes you have to grind it out, and hope to come away with 2 points. Tonight was one of those nights.

This gives Randy something to drill them with in practice. They need to be reminded that they won't get that kind of luck every night, and without a better effort, we lose those games 9 times out of 10.

It will be a win that is used as a lesson. As it should be. Personally, practices after a win like this are my favourite as a coach, not a player.

As a fan maybe, but RC better know better. Every game needs a critique and compliments where they are deserved.

Eakins deserves credit for having so many AHL players ready to graduate

I recall him saying Holtzer was an NHL D last year and he fits in so well up here as well as Fraser who is the big nasty D we hoped Komi would be..

I expect some trades soon with Komi in press box and Gunnarson and Gardner on the way back

Definitely.

Fraser is everything we hoped Komi would be at about 15% of the cap hit.
