Now that's over with. Take out the dirty hits and this was a great hockey game. There was some drama, some great playmaking, some top shelf goaltending, in a grinding sweaty hockey game.
True or false can Marner play in this kind of game? Why yes I think he can, as he continues his strong play.
The kids are alright, yes they sure is! Grebs, Steeves and the baby face stood up to the physicality, matched their opponents stride for stride and didn't look overmatched on any of their shifts. Do this in 7 out of their next 10 games and I think as a third line, you cant ask for much more other than 8 out of the next 10 after that.
John, McRocketmann and Mitch drove the team forward, dominated territorialy, physically and mentally. Cassidy had to try line matching them, considering that Vegas was supposed to have the edge and frankly in a turnaround almost nobody expected got pushed around! Bully for our Bud's.
I didn't think we had a chance of matching that defence or their goaltending. The Leafs defence had a firm grip on both bluelines, and Joseph Woll handled the game like he's done it a million times before.
Berube is making a difference, and he's rubbing off on them for sure. I remember Chief when he played, he was a fearless competitor without a lot of elite tools and yet got into over 1000 NHL games which is no small feat. He accomplished it through physical and mental toughness, determination and intimidation. Those are all still valued tools in this league, now let's see how much staying power these guys have.
On to the next!
