Last night was the fist time I watched an entire Leafs game this year. I can say with confidence that this is the best forechecking Leafs team I've seen in the last two decades. The defense core is also the best they have had in many years. The goaltending duo is the best in years too. Craig Berube deserves all the credit for this version of the Leafs because I haven't seen them play this tough and defensively responsible for years. And they were missing their best player.

Little rough at times but held in there. Lorentz was a warrior blocking shots.
Woll was great. Looked calm in net, and stonewalled them for the shutout.
Minten and Grebenkin did not look out of place, which was good to see. Minten first goal!
Hope Knies is okay. Wild that we somehow took the penalty out of that, but what else is new in this idiot league.

What is the D supposed to do? Should have been a penalty for hitting the head, but it was a hockey hit.

Same situation with Reaves, there’s no intent to hit the head and both injured players had their heads down.

I only ask for consistency. I do think Whitecloud jumped into the hit though.

I think that there will be more eyes looking at the hit and they'll realize there mistake. If they're trying to reduce head shots, they'll have to use these hits as an example. This hit was worse than Reeves because he jumped and appeared to intent to injure.

No doubt there’s inconsistency.
He hit the head it should be two minutes like an accidental trip is.

But he didn’t jump. You have eliminate that from the conversation.

On the hit, if this was the NFL that player would have been kicked out of the game. I saw him leading his shoulder to the head with some lift off his skates. He targeted his head in my opinion. This was worse than the NFL Detroit Lions Bryan Branch hit that got him ejected against Green Bay.

I don't think he was head hunting at all, just a big hit. Pretty hard to go at that speed and not catch the guys head when he's got it down and leading with it.

Reaves was unfortunate in that it was more glancing. I don't think he was trying to headhunt either.

Age and injuries have been the worry but if he keeps on being one of the best defensive dmen in hockey, we got a gem here at a steal of a price.

Hopefully we keep a copy handy and if ever we have a player get disciplined for a similar hit, we can ask why?

Reaves has played his last game.

Holmberg I am still on the fence. I think he can be a decent Kampf replacement. Cheap and has some offensive touches. He made some nice outlet passes last night

I love the way they are playing.

I disagree it was a clean hit. He elevated himself through that hit. It was no different than the Reeves hit. One of a five min major and thrown out with a five game suspension. This one is no minor at all. The officiating today is garbage all the way around. They lost control of the game and it was evident.

I love the eye for an eye approach on this team. I think this is the best version of OEL I have ever seen. Love his play.

Why do we need Mathews? Honestly, I don’t think we need him.

The way Knies was skating it was impossible not to hit his head, IMO. I don't think you could hit someone at that speed and not have it take you off balance(leave your feet).
