My effort to reverse the jinx:

Probably confirmation bias here but how many times has there been a "I'm Visiting Toronto and Tonight's My First Leafs' Game" thread here followed by a nightmare Saturday night game?
Sorry hope it’s not a jinx

Main boards are so toxic. You would think the Leafs were the worst team in the league reading those threads. Silence on the Habs, but Leafs have how many threads by non Leaf fans in each forum? Hyman is the GOAT, Andersen for Vezina, etc.

These guys got no respect when they did the same shit here. Now, Dubas is an idiot for letting them go. Had he kept them, he would be roasted as well. Just like how he was roasted for signing Rielly "50 percent of the cap hurr durr" if he signed Hyman, the thread would be 60% of the cap instead.

And they use the excuse of "oh the Leafs are shoved down our throats and fans are always saying they are the best team ever".. When is this happening? The fanbase has been so negative and unpassionate for months now after that loss. The media has been dominated by non Leaf news, Olympics coverage, and if they do talk about the team, it's how bad their start has been.

It's just so toxic. Makes me want to never log back in. It's not even discussions anymore, just a circle jerk about how much the Leafs suck. And then you come here, and it's the same shit within our fanbase. It's one thing for us fans to complain and do whatever, but no other team gets the Leafs treatment on here.
I was reading the mainboards trade thread a few days ago. This is how bad it is. I read some of the Eichel thread it seems fans think they can get a good player, a good prospect and a 1st. I then read the Mathews trade thread started by a sens fan I think. Seems Mathews can't get much because he will leave wherever he is in 3 years. So the most we could get is nothing and hope somebody takes him so we get the capspace to acquire someone else. OMG!

Enjoy the attention.

It would be unbearable if they ignored the Leafs. That would mean they're irrelevant like Anaheim and a few other teams that I can't even think of the names of.

Very interested to see Dermott, Sandin, Liljegren all in the same game tonight. A strong showing could prove disastrous for Justin Holl. Huge opportunity for Dermott playing up with Rielly. Undoubtedly a tough assignment when playing on your off side against strong competition (Brodie makes it look easy, but it's definitely not). Brodie is quietly one of the smarter D-men I've seen in quite some time. Really come to appreciate his game. Hopefully he can help Muzzin get back on track (I'm still baffled how Muzzin-Holl went from solid shutdown pairing to unplayable). The Sandin-Liljegren pairing scares me from an experience standpoint, hopefully they do well together. I really want Liljegren to grab the reigns here.

This sums it up really well. I don't know how Holl and Muzzin fell off a cliff so bad. Good post.

Hopefully Detroit is tired from the OT game and travel last night

They'll probably feel it a bit. Leafs have to get on them early.

ummm.... better late than never I guess...

People can laugh at it all they want but the guy just turned 24. They're kids. Yes the expectations are high... and they should be, but sometimes people forget this.

I get pissed when they suck too but in regards to learning to take the lead... say you're in your late 30s and had some kid who's early 20s yelling at you... you'd tell him to f*** off.

It takes a while when you're that age to start telling people where to go. It's part of being a leader and growing up. Matthews could score 30 or 40 only this year but if they make it past the 1st round and he becomes more captain material and vocal... I'm all for it.

Wonder how many Leafs passed out after watching this ??

Haha. True enough.

As much as it shows a massive commitment by their players which 100% the Leafs need to do... it also shows their young goalie bailing them out and being hemmed in their zone by a really good team.

You do that enough times and teams are going to pot a ton of goals.

I watched that game last night and the intensity and effort on both sides was amazing for a regular season game this early in the year. It had almost a playoff like commitment to compete to win.

The Leafs better not take the Red Wings for granted tonight and bring their "A" game or they're going to get outworked.

I like the updates to the D-pairings, huge opportunity for Dermott. We need to spank these guys and have some fun.

It might be a little like the Rielly and Barrie pairing we had for awhile, but I think Dermott will do well. He seems a little more dialed in lately, making good breakouts and simple plays in his own zone. I think he needs to find that extra gear with his skill, both at zone entries and offensively.

Probably won't get to watch much of it but I expect a damn win.

Detroit' 1st line (Raymond especially) has been amazing,. Other than that they haven't been too impressive outside of Seider.

Justin Holl a healthy scratch while Jared MaCann leads the Seattle Kraken in scoring with 3-4-7 points in 8 games.

The way Holl has played this year, I wonder if there is any remorse in expansion decisions, as McCann would look good right now on a team struggling for offense playing LW on one of Leaf top lines, as he would be the closest thing to replace Hyman?

Call me a traitor, a sellout, blasphemer, I understand, but I had to like that tweet.

Everyone had the Wings pegged for another lottery pick but it looks like the boys in red said "well, let's just see about that." May still end up a lottery pick, but it must feel great to see your team fighting like that ...

Maturity? Hopefully.

We still forget it takes MOST players a long time to learn how to win. Sakic, Stevie Y, Ovie,, list is too long.

We look at Chi and Pit as the norm but they are the exception.

Absolutely.

It would be fantastic to see this part of his game evolve into what we all hope it can become.

In regard to the leadership element of the core, this really is the first show me year. No more vets brought in because of their intangibles. So it is really nice to see 34 take the bull by the horns.

Hopefully he maintains the approach. This team desperately needs a competative fire.
