The media has been whining about the Leafs not punching people for the past three weeks. I guess they expected a different result or forgot about the refs.

The baseline is if you take liberties on any Leaf you’re going to get your lunch fed to you. End of story. And we have to kill those penalties. That’s the standard.

You get into trouble the moment you get into cheap calculations about whether you care about your teammates or not and you’re doing the math on whether the score allows you to. When you’re thinking that much you’ll never be in the game.

Yup ride it out we keep responding. The issue is we are never initiating the contact. Van is finishing every hit tonight we need to either play faster and smarter or match them.

You just make it harder for them to do those things. If they do that and they have to take a punch in the face, and they know that, they’ll be less likely to do it.

And that continues until the behavior is corrected.
