Good morning my beautiful bastards and bastlets.

politics on game day for game 1 of the playoffs should be an insta ban
Some people have to blame someone for something.

Can't blame the refs yet as they haven't called or missed a penalty yet, although some posters have made a preemptive whine.

The cost of beer has been that high for a while now, it really depends on what you're buying. The new federal tax only raised the cost by a few cents or something, the pre existing Ontario taxes are what makes it so high.
Taxes on alcohol is evil

I buy my fair share of alcohol, (probably more than my fair share if I'm being honest), but taxes on alcohol make complete sense. If for no other reason, then because alcohol consumption leadsto increased health care costs, and costs society in many other ways as well.
Bit off topic but the only thing I would say about that is that treating the consumption of alcohol like people should be treating food should not cause problems with one's health. Nanny state bs. Healthcare should not be funded on an artisan product. Better Healthcare in Europe without the teatoddler piousness against liquor here.

I remember saying like 40 years ago or so that if the logic for taxing cigarettes so heavily was health care costs, why don't they tax things like donuts more? Why is it OK to kill yourself by overeating, but not by smoking? Well now, I believe taxing unhealthy foods is finally becoming more mainstream.

Anyhow, interesting subject but you're right, off topic. I'm hoping the Leafs kick ass tonight and even though it's a week night, I doubt I'll get through the game without consuming some alcohol so ...

GLG!!

I'm taxed 30-40K a year not including tax on goods and I have health insurance so I'd prefer 0 taxes and paid healthcare. There's not one single opinion we would all agree on except we all want the leafs to win. Go Leafs Go!

Obstacles to overcome:
1. Vasilevskiy...need traffic in front of him constantly.
2. Tampa's relentless forecheck, hitting, contacting the goalie, scrums, pack mentality... Can we handle it and stay focussed?
3.Unforced errors/giveaways...Will we continue to piss around in our own end or finally realize there are times you just have to chip it out?
4.How the refs decide to call the series...Tampa banks on the theory "they will let a lot go that is called in the regular season" and they play accordingly...don't get caught up in it, resist the urge to retaliate...We're not good at that game...Play hard, stay focussed, stick to the game plan.
There's many factors of course but I'll be looking at these 4.

Leafts in 4, MAYBE it takes 5 but I'm going with 4 now.

The Leafs are younger. They were better this year. Tampa faded badly toward the end of the season. They can outskate the Lightning. They should dominate shot attempts and possession. At times they should have the tampa pinned in their own end for long stretches. Very little reason to think otherwise.

Now I'm not going to say anything like I guarantee a sweep, because in the NHL playoffs, well, silly things happen. But looking at this objectively, the Leafs are a better all around team. They are more talented as most of tampa's talent is aging. Tampa has the wear-and-tear of long playoff runs on the tires that the Leafs don't have, and most of the Leafs SHOULD want it more (not that Tampa doesn't but a loss just isn't as devasting for them.)

Tampa might get better goaltending? So what, the rest of the team should be so slanted in the Leafs favor they should overcome that.

And enough whining about the Refs, or making excuses before the fact for the Leafs that the refs will screw them over. Bad calls go both ways and being objective as possible, the Leafs get as many and go against them, just as a fanbase we tend to ignore 'outside' benefits but blame outside forces when they go agains us. PRE-EMPTIVELY bringing up the refs is nothing but an self-defense mechanism for the insecure, laying the groudwork for whining at a later time.

After the Leafs win, the rest of the playoff series they will face will be a coin toss.
IF, IF the leafs don't win, and they should, then we are at the point that some substantial changes have to be made. I just don't think we are there.

Toronto still is the more talented team at this point. And with Cernak and Hedman either not playing or probabaly not 100%, all the more reason why the Leafs could sweep the next 4.

As I said in my other post though, this is the NHL playoffs, strange things do happen. And if the Leafs DO have an early exit, changes will have to be made.

We aren't there yet, but if changes are made, I'd start with the front office/GM/decision makers. You make a change there but still bring back MOST of the same team next year. These guys are in their prime and you aren't likely to get better on the ice by moving them out. The new GM/leader can tweak around the edges, but their job is to do that 'tweaking' and evaluate what might have to change long term going forward. If the Leafs do well the following year, great. If they don't, then the core needs to be broken up and I want that new GM/leadership team doing it, not the current one.

One of greatest bollywood movie ever. Watched at Albion Cinemas

I can accept losses. It's part of the game
What I cannot accept is the team not showing up at home

Keefe again was overcoaching. You have a generational player in Auston Matthews and you are afraid of Cirelli?

Dude let them go ahead to ahead. Let them be worried about Auston Matthews at home. Here Keefe, worried about Cirelli

The team was so out of sync. No pressure, no push back, no forecheck. Just a step behind. All this with Hedmen missing

Even when the game was out of hand, nobody finished their checks, nobody made life difficult. Accepted their resigned fate and moved on

It was hard to believe that we were the home team, that we were the team with 12 points advantage

Year in year out, our goalies crumble, our superstars are no shows and our management looks lost

Simmonds should not sniff a minute of playoff hockey during this run.

Jarnkrok Matthws Marner
Tavares O'Reilly Nylander
Knies Acciari Kerfoot
ZAR Kampf Lafferty

McCabe Brodie
Rielly Schenn
Giordano Liljegren

Samsonov

Let's not overreact here.

Obviously last night was a nightmare for a leaf fan

A lot of shit went wrong

Hopefully we clean that up for game 2 and beyond

Some positives that are not being talked about

1) Our PP was doing it's job and for the first time in a long time in the playoffs was delivering. Encouraging stuff which hopefully keeps up

2) All of the big 4 had pts depsite poor play overall. Think this is maybe the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened (game 4 2020 vs CBJ they all had pts pretty sure and then probably vs tampa last year)

3) Samsonov let in some goals he makes saves on generally. Likely due to nerves of playing game 1. He wasn't being sniped just had some late reactions which can be worked over the next few games

4) Leafs defensive system which they ran for 82 games and had them as a top 10ish defense went away inexplicably. I'm not a person who thinks the defense is elite but at the same time it isn't trash. A trash defense doesn't limit goals/chances for a bulk of regular season games (aka 2012 TML, 2014 TML, 2015 TML)

I'm expecting the boys to come out with fire in game 2.

Knies + lilijgren is the right choice if bunting is suspended (he will be). Keefe won't take out Holl so schenn should come out despite a decent quite game.

I would also look to take off ZAR. Goal one should cost a benching. Tried to be cute when hes a defensive 4th liner. That needs to be adjusted. Robertson injury sucks as we could use him as a spark plug if he was healthy. I'd give SDA/Steeves a shot at that for game 2

I don't see us dying and falling in 4 or 5. I still see us in 6. The leafs need to be more disciplined defensively, stop taking so many penalties and if they do get called for some PPs then find a way to kill the PP. The PK can't go from low 80s to mid 60s.

Leafs will win game 2 by 3 goals at least

Important game. A game after totally being embarrased and outclassed

Be honest Hamza, when was the last time Leafs came out firing after a game like that?
You only yourself to blame for the disapointment

On a side note: Gio looks like he's done

Not sure how bad he's hurt, but the last time TB didn't have Hedman available, they got swept by CBJ in the first round.
