Important game. A game after totally being embarrased and outclassed

Be honest Hamza, when was the last time Leafs came out firing after a game like that?
You only yourself to blame for the disapointment

On a side note: Gio looks like he's done
Agree on Gio he is pretty washed. Offer him a management role next year

Leafs came out hot in game 1 vs tampa in 2022

We got the first goal via Muzzin and then went on to control the game and win 5-0

Starting si shit though is a big issue and Keefe is my number 1 culprit for it. He needs to f*** being friends and go full dictator on these players. If you aren't ready to start on time your going to be punished.

Obviously last night was a nightmare for a leaf fan

A lot of shit went wrong

Hopefully we clean that up for game 2 and beyond

Some positives that are not being talked about

1) Our PP was doing it's job and for the first time in a long time in the playoffs was delivering. Encouraging stuff which hopefully keeps up

2) All of the big 4 had pts depsite poor play overall. Think this is maybe the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened (game 4 2020 vs CBJ they all had pts pretty sure and then probably vs tampa last year)

3) Samsonov let in some goals he makes saves on generally. Likely due to nerves of playing game 1. He wasn't being sniped just had some late reactions which can be worked over the next few games

4) Leafs defensive system which they ran for 82 games and had them as a top 10ish defense went away inexplicably. I'm not a person who thinks the defense is elite but at the same time it isn't trash. A trash defense doesn't limit goals/chances for a bulk of regular season games (aka 2012 TML, 2014 TML, 2015 TML)

I'm expecting the boys to come out with fire in game 2.

Knies + lilijgren is the right choice if bunting is suspended (he will be). Keefe won't take out Holl so schenn should come out despite a decent quite game.

I would also look to take off ZAR. Goal one should cost a benching. Tried to be cute when hes a defensive 4th liner. That needs to be adjusted. Robertson injury sucks as we could use him as a spark plug if he was healthy. I'd give SDA/Steeves a shot at that for game 2

I don't see us dying and falling in 4 or 5. I still see us in 6. The leafs need to be more disciplined defensively, stop taking so many penalties and if they do get called for some PPs then find a way to kill the PP. The PK can't go from low 80s to mid 60s.

Leafs will win game 2 by 3 goals at least
Goal 1 was da simplest of hockey plays .. sure there were giveways but bottom line Perry took our net without a hit .. that can't EVER EVER EVER be allowed to happen by any D in playoff hockey .. Holl was there and tried to stick check .. all he has to do is stand in Perrys way even if he gets run over it is a dead play .. but he played da chicken sh*t stick check .. he comes out for that play alone .. scared and useless

Question you should be asking is why was ZAR even in that play?

Yes I remember now, Keefe took out Matthews because he's afraid of Cirelli. Cirelli isn't exactly Datsyuk or Tikanen that you had to take Matthews out first shift of the game

I honestly don't know the love affair this team has with Holl. But what do I know. I am not the fastest coach to 100 wins as I was reminded 100 times

I know we won the first game handily last year, and I admit I switched to the Jays for the 3rd period last might, but did they show any fight? Were they hitting? Were they grinding down Tampa's already hurt team?

The answer to that will likely have a strong correlation with the outcome of this series.

Jarnkrok Matthews Nylander
Knies Tavares Marner
Kerfoot O'Reilly Lafferty
ZAR Kampf Acciari

The brutal officiating aside, I think last night could be just what the doctor ordered for this group.

I am optimistic despite last night's disastrous result on the scoreboard.

You would like to think so but there just can't be any confidence that this does anything positive for this group.

If the chip wasn't already on their shoulders to start the game last night from ALL the previous failures and ALL the noise around them. Why would getting blown out at home in game 1 provide any motivation for the rest of the series?

I am not panicking yet..we all knew this will be a 6 or 7 game series and I expected to go at tampa tied 1 1...i see us winning games 2 and 3, losing game 4 and winning games 5 and 6

No pre game or gdt yet so here are the lines...

Upfront changes are decent but again Holl is still... in the lineup. What a f***ing joke.

Would like to see Clifford in for ZAR. Not sure if that's possible

Just double shift Matthews

Kerfoot in the top 6
Holl not being scratched despite 6 goals against

Keefe just can't help himself.
We're pretty limited on options for LW with Bunting likely getting suspended. Should have absolutely acquired an actual scoring LW at the trade deadline as many of us were screaming from the rooftops.

At least he finally caught on to having 3 lines with actual potential to score. Can't believe he was OK with that bottom 6 in game 1.

JT at 5v5 is so-so without Marner, I think I would lean into this;

Jarnkrok-Matthews-Marner
Knies-ROR-88
Kerfoot-JT-Laff
ZAR-Kampf-Acciari

McCabe-Brodie
Rielly-Schenn
Gio-Liljegren

Samsonov but a short leash, his playoff numbers suck, the 1st goal has an odor to it and Woll goes in.

Haha.

Leafs lunch saying the Leafs need to treat tomorrow like Game 7.

That would be the worst thing they could do!

interesting but I just can't see that third line doing anything besides getting caved in defensively, and then we're back where we started with a limp bottom 6. I'd start Woll but I think your scenario is more likely and Samsonov might suprise with a bounce back.

Justin Holl staying in the lineup after being on for 6 of the goals against is hilarious.

Dude had some good stretches during the season, but should in no way be a staple in the lineup.

If Liljegren was on for 6 goals against, he’d be banished to the shadow realm.

I dunno, if I’m Liljegren, I request a trade (especially if the Leafs manage to win the series and save jobs).

It's not a level playing field at all, immunity to accountability.

Kerfoot and Laff have some speed and could help JT win match ups against the Bolts bottom 6.

Not to mention that terrible turnover by Jack-Asston Reese on that 1st goal.
