Not good news about Matthews but it definitely confirms what we've been seeing out there.

I'd consider putting Nylander with him since Nylander is a better shooter than Marner. Teams can collapse on Mitch a little more if they know Matthews' isn't shooting properly right now.

Agreed, if they put some daylight between themselves and Jets.

Leafs could then coast along at .500 the 2nd 1/2 of the season even, and 4 teams are not going to catch and pass them for a playoff spot.

If the Leafs sweep the Jets or at least win 2 of 3 then I would imagine 1st or 2nd (at worst) in the Div is the expected outcome thereafter.

Anything but a 18 wheeler over a cliff 2nd half and its clear sailing ahead.

Keep hearing Ehlers has been playing well and Connor is the most unknown scorer in the league. Wheeler, Stastny, PLD, Schiefele. Man that is an impressive top 6 forwards. Too bad they all but gave Roslovic away in the PLD deal. I am sure they will be looking to bolster their D at the TDL and will be a force to be reckonned with in the playoffs. I just hope it does not come down to a battle of goalies if we meet.

Yeah he did rest already. He also had that couple week national lampoons vacation on there.... so yeah, he needs these games to stay fresh and feeds off that. He gets more hyped and energized as he gets to be with his buddies matthews and marner on the first line. They that hard for life sire.

He’s 41yo in his 23rd season being played on the top line. I think expecting an issue with energy levels is a valid concern

To all those saying to just rest Matthews, do you honestly believe the Leafs wouldn't do that if it were just a matter of waiting an extra week or two. Its pretty clear that he suffered ligament damage and the choice is to play through pain and discomfort or be shut down for a longer duration, potentially the rest of the season.

Ol' man koho's Big 5 hockey things to watch for post;

1) Watch for JT to continue his comeback into the land of hockey playing, I just didn't like it when he didn't know how to hockey

2) Watch for Matty again proving who the real #1 pick is, I'm kind o' thinking Laine will be next to invisible for the Jets

3) Watch for Magic from Mitch he just needs to stop being such a big suck and giving the puck away to the other team just so they can score a goal twice times 2 a game

4) Watch for the Shrewd Doob to take Chevy to the Zanzibar and get him all done up righteous and talk him into trading Lowry with a 3 year extension for Kerf and a 3rd

5) Watch for the Leafs to help shut the door on the Canadiens and treat Winnipeg to OT losses both nights
