One-Timers: Luke Schenn will make his home debut (again) for the Leafs Friday versus Carolina…. Ilya Samsonov and Matt Murray will split starts during this weekend’s back-to-back against the Hurricanes and Senators…. The Leafs plan to dress 11/7 Friday and revert to 12/6 Saturday…. Mitch Marner (29:10) and Auston Matthews (26:52) skated season highs in Wednesday’s OT loss and needed to take Thursday’s practice off for rest. “If you’re a player, you want to get on,” Keefe said…. The stumbling Lightning sit three points back of the Leafs in the race for home ice. Toronto holds a game in hand (Edit now 1 point back Leafs have 2 games in hand)…. With Andrei Svechnikov’s suffering his season-ending injury, Jesse Puljujarvi has been promoted to Carolina’s top line…. The Maple Leafs will wear their spectacular green St. Pat’s getups on March 17, as they should.

Its still amazing for us to be able to lose a guy that small............... He is tiny like the mandalorian baby (Baby yoda).

It was those pads. At the start of everyone having custom painted helmets and matched pads he kept rockin those boring beat up whites.

Canes just lost their best player

So We should win this

Our commitment to 11/7 is stupid
There is just no way management is trying to showcase a dman or two in hopes of making trades at the draft. But I just can't, for the life of me, figure out why in the hell Keefe and management are doing this.

Game one
Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-schenn
Gio-Lilly
Holl

Game two
Rielly- schenn
McCabe- Lilly
Gustafson- Holl

I’d like to see those pairings next two games
Schenn is best suited to be on the 3rd pairing. No way should he be in the top 4. But I really do like him.

Give Gio a breather ffs. I don't care if he says he wants to play
It's important to remember that for some players, "taking a breather" hurts more than it helps, with the stop and go and routine disruption making it hard to get back to their top form.
The coaching staff is going to have a better idea what each player needs than random fans on the internet.
We're already coming off a month where we barely played, and Giordano's minutes have already been cut with the 7D.

I'm sure he'll get a rest at some point.
It does seem the Coach is out of touch but even he should see the value in having guys fresh for the playoffs.

Great point about it hurting some players more than it helps. Unfortunately that seems to apply more to young players like Holmberg and Liljegren, who looked like they could contribute in the NHL and now look lost. Is it possible that the coaching staff may have been wrong to healthy scratch Liljegren and threaten him to play perfectly or he'd be out of the lineup?

NO!!! Like everything else they do no wrong, ever.
The suggestion itself is blasphemy!

Not a Holl fan but Lil crapped the bed a few times last game so I'm not complaining too loudly.
I know they're grown men and need to be able to handle adversity, but it seems the way they have handled Liljegren ever since they traded Sandin, he hasn't been the same player. They sat him out a few shortly after the trade (can't remember if he deserved it then or not), and ever since, he hasn't been the same player. And I'm not saying we shouldn't have traded Sandin. That was Dubas sending him where he stood a better chance of playing more, while also getting something back in return.

Actually, it tends to apply more to older players that are used to playing full NHL seasons, and that have established routines, know how to pace, and take a bit to ramp up.
"Lost"? "Threatening Liljegren to play perfectly or he'd be out of the lineup"? Good lord, exaggerate much?
Liljegren sat for all of 2 games, when he had just been roughed up the game prior, and there were a bunch of new defensemen to try out.

No he didn't deserve it. Keefe said that he was being out of the lineup because he got roughened up against Edmonton, which implies he was injured. Lily himself said he wasn't injured. It was just a way for Keefe to get the overload of defence a chance to play, but instead of scratching someone like Holl, he scratched him. His confidence is shot thanks to Keefe.

I'm just a little unclear why it's an unreasonable exaggeration to point out that scratching Liljegren for two games in a row has really hurt his play when we can all see the decline. Conversely, you think the coaching staff are brilliant for playing Giordano every night because even missing a game could set him back. I just don't see much consistency between those two positions. You either have to admit they hurt Liljegren by scratching him, or Giordano might be fine to miss a game here or there.

I also don't know why fitting new defensemen into our lineup is a justification for scratching Liljegren but mysteriously doesn't apply to Giordano

Weird with 7D.

I would still like to see

Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-Liljegren
Gio-Holl

or
Rielly-Liljegren
McCabe-Holl
Gio-Brodie

Those are our best 6. Schenn is a good 7th but in no way shape or form should be on the primary shutdown pair, especially witb McCabe not being a great skater either.

I have a feeling Schenn is going to play his share of games, even in the playoffs for right or wrong. He simply brings things the others just don't have, especially when the game grinds down to mush.

The unreasonable exaggeration was making the false suggestion that Liljegren is now "lost", and that Keefe told Liljegren that he needed to "play perfectly or he'd be out of the lineup" - neither of which are true. Liljegren's gone through ups and downs throughout the season all on his own, and there's nothing to suggest that any recent struggles are a result of him sitting for 2 games after getting roughed up. You've just jumped to that random assumption based on absolutely nothing because you dislike Keefe and the current setup, even while contradicting yourself by simultaneously arguing that pretty much everybody who didn't sit for 2 games has also been trash lately.

Liljegren getting lost as a result of having 5 days between games would, quite frankly, only further justify Keefe's decision.

Where did I say the coaching staff was brilliant? I merely said that it's not always as simple as old player sit = benefit, which is true.
Giordano might rest as we get closer to the playoffs, and that's fine if they think that will help, but we've just gone through a month where we barely played, and his minutes and responsibility have already been cut with the addition of McCabe and the 7D setup. Giordano's already been resting.

Giordano is a lock for the playoffs, and is likely to be one to play with whatever defenseman wins one of the remaining spots being fought for, so it makes sense that they want to test combinations with him in the lineup.

One thing is for sure... You, as an outside fan, don't have more information on load management specifics than the internal coaching staff.

Looking like Sammy tonight, Murray tomorrow.

Should be a good one tonight. I expect some goals. Looking at Carolinas D ... they get quite a bit of their points from the back end.
