I remember the evolution of all this.

Without going through it all, the addition of the SO, was to ensure there is a winner. The extra point no longer made sense once the SO was added.

You win the game or you lose. That's it. There should be no incentive to taking it to OT or a SO, unless you think your team can win easier that way.

As long as you're going to dramatically change the game for the OT (3 on 3) I would prefer a 3-2-1 point allocation. That way you can still get a point for a 60 min tie, and each game is worth 3 points
