Vegas needs a slow, overpaid plug.

What are the odds the Leafs end up retaining, because a buyout isn't really an option, and his buried cap hit is 1.3m -> they could still retain 900k or so and it's better than paying teams to take him.

Why is a buyout not an option? It's only 300k next year and 1.1 mil the following year.

I think they'd prefer not to have an extra 1.1m against the cap in 23-24, or at least - 900k retained + getting an asset back is better than a 1.1m cap hit.

The only problem with that is his salary next year goes way up.

Ritchie + 23 3rd for Marcus Johansson? Save a little cap this year and free up 2.5M next year while getting a good depth scoring forward. Seattle uses their cap space to gain a mid round pick. Can give Ritchie a chance to refind his game. Seattle could probably retain 50% too if really needed. Not sure if Toronto is looking for cap this year or next.

This is actually genius. Who but Dubas and Pridham and of course Shanahan could mastermind acquiring Ritchie, and then moving him for the appropriate assets?

A few thoughts here...

It could be something where 2-3 contracts make their way to the Leafs but all 750-1.1M range, teams gain contract slot flexbility, lose some payroll and take a chance on Ritchie. He wasn't truly awful as a Leaf, snake bitten and just didn't mesh with Keefe.

It could be a very soft return or a small sweetener like a C prospect or late pick.

I don't think it will cost a lot on top of Ritchie to move him unless the Leafs are wanting to get an asset from said team.
