Perry would have been the Leafs Darcy Tucker clone. Some think that’s Bunting but he isn’t close.

It's not Perry either... Tucker was tough, Perry is just dirty, people seem to get dirty and tough confused with Tampa.

Perry is a good player, would love to have him, but he isn't close to Tucker.

Keefe don't try and match Cooper, let our horses run.
This is the result.
Now the trick is to do it again.
When we skate and play smart TB can't keep up

Knies looked great for his first game.

He was line-matching... he just smartly spread out our talent, that is our greatest strength, we have amazing depth, use it.

Everyone hated Parry Sound yesterday for some reason - it's a beautiful county.

These first two games barely felt like playoff games to me. They have felt like intense regular season contests.

I swear that Corey Perry is a league generated pantomime villain for the Toronto market.

I'll go against the grain: I'm not feeling the rave reviews for Knies. He's got a lot of upside, he skates well and pursues well for a new pro but he's just not quite there yet. He seems likely to make a game changing error if given too many responsibilities. I'd prefer to see an older prospect like Holmberg (especially), McCann (if healthy) or Steeves. These guys have a little more experience and acquired pro savvy.

I thought O’Reilly and Knies had a little bit of chemistry going. O’Reilly is captain material and he transforms our team. Can’t believe some people thought this was Folingo 2.0… but that’s just HFBoards.

Tavares had a monster game. Nylander was also good. I still think they’re way better apart though.

Rielly had 4 assists. That’s going to be good for his confidence. I’m not the biggest Rielly fan but he steps up around playoff time.

Schenn was also very steady. Another great pick up. Gio with a good fight. The team showed impressive team toughness. The deadline additions have been great.

Jeanott looks like Foligno 2.0 from where I’m sitting

Tucker from that era would be suspended every series in the modern NHL IMO. Remember that great hit against Kapanen? Today, if it wasnt called on the ice, you would have every analyst instantly dissecting it to find something wrong (left his feet just before contact, high hit that caught a ton of head, injury on the play, blah blah), put extreme media pressure on the league (cause Toronto) and then he would have been out for the rest of the series. How about Tucker blowing out Peca's knee in the playoffs with a super late hit intent to injure? Hell, remember Tucker himself getting hit on the numbers, separating his shoulder and it leading to a game winning goal by Aflie?

The game has changed so much since then.

I hear what you're saying about Knies. I think he looked great in many way (e.g., cutting in front of the net) and is giving us a glimpse into the future, but he may be prone to a game changing error, like you said (e.g., bad penalty, passing into no-man's-land). I'd give him one more game, as some of that may just be nerves.

I just checked....the coffee does in fact taste better today.
Yes it does.

I've been someone critical or skeptical of Schenn, but I think through two games, he has been calm, moved the puck well, defended the front of the net well, and with playoff Rielly beside him, has looked great. Was really worried about too many pucks just going off the glass and have been pleasantly surprised.

yes obviously not an exact clone and yes things are much different now and Tucker would change his game accordingly.

Similarities are a guy who is a pest that other teams dislike, can score and will fight when necessary.
No two players are exactly the same, that should go without saying.

Do I have to remind that the Tucker hit on Kapanen happened on the same shift as the goal that ended the Pat Quinn playoff era? It's nuts that it's even remembered considering that a heartbreaking OT goal ending the Leafs' season happened moments later.

I just get the vibe any pest the Leafs have would be singled out by the league for some reason a la Kadri and Bunting. Everything is so media driven now it drives me nuts. First time offender Bunting got 3 games and we have seen other dirty plays like Nosek with a full on extended elbow knocking out Stall and a guy getting his wrist broken with a 2 hander that are apparently not suspendable offenses.

I dunno.

If Knies continues to play like he did last night, it allows us to play a legitimate offensive talent on the 3rd line with ROR and personally I think three well balanced lines capable of providing offense is a better setup than stacking your top 2 lines and praying the bottom 6 can do something. That sequence where the puck was dumped in and Knies won a footrace to the puck, got control of the puck along the boards and fed ROR with a quick pass right in the slot was very impressive from a skilled player.
I was always hoping for a Bunting - ROR - Knies 3rd line in the playoffs.

Hats off to JT but lets be real that was da best game in 2 years by Rielly .. dude decided to take that game by da throat and cut Tampa's throat .. putting Schenn with Rielly was such a smart move as no one is gonna mess Rielly up because they all know Schenn will be by instantly .. and so does Rielly which makes him more confident .. we may need to dress Wayner for next game as Schenn can't fight everyone all da time .. but back to Rielly that was a #1 D cutting da throat and saying boys ride my back .. his speed was obvious from shift 1 and he looked like Rielly of old .. to me it was Rielly star 1 Rielly star 2 and Schenn star 3 .. let da truth reign free .. I call em exactly like i see em from my seats .. and that was talk of my section .. folks were hollering for Rielly which I haven't seen in years .. congrats from da big guy .. keep it up in Tampa .. Keefer dress Wayner next game as Cooper will design a game plan to run Rielly hard and refs won't olice it .. heads up Keefer .. da big guy

Yep, brought a Flyer fan to that game.
Wasn't fun going home. It never is watching your team get knocked out and it seems the Leafs always go out at home. (I know not always before someone jumps all over me )

i
Matthew Knies Hooking against Nicholas Paul
He got all stick refs wanted to call something cause we got up early

i
Matthew Knies Slashing against Haydn Fleury
I think we can all agree that was a soft call. Didn't even slash down on his stick basically gave it a little flip.

I think both Game 1 and our overall recent history show us anyone can make a game/series costing error

Great pushback game for sure, but the real test comes on Saturday. We all knew the Leafs were going to come out to play last night. They had no choice!

But we all know that Tampa is going to come back big in game three. Vasy is likely going to have a huge bounce back game of his own.

This is where we will truly find out if the Leafs have finally turned a corner. Are they going to play like they did last night, or are they going to allow themselves to be intimidated and overwhelmed by the Lightning?

And btw, is it only me that thought that Matthews was pretty quiet last night. I believe he got two assists, but he didn’t look very dangerous out there, imo. Would be nice to see him elevate his game and dominate a game or two.

Didn't see many talking about it but Cirelli looked to be laboring pretty hard near the end of the game after his collision with Matthews. Tampa is looking more and more banged up.

Great game by the boys. Also showed they won’t back down from the physical game against Tampa.

What’s more embarrassing is Cooper didn’t even try to settle his team down in those last 10 minutes where it was VERY CLEAR Tampa was just trying to stir shit.

If Hedman and Cernak continue to be out we HAVE to take advantage of that.
I ain’t a betting man but I’d go all in Hedman is back in the lineup next game, especially after a game like last night.

If Hedman comes back it's obviosuly massive for TB, although i doubt he would be any where near 100%. Target him when ever he is on the ice.

Also does anyone know what happened with Sergachev? Left with about 5 minutes left in the game and i don't think he came back
