Did Bowen do something to piss off Sportsnet? Is there a reason given as to why he can't broadcast games on Sportsnet? I'm yet to come across a Leafs fan who prefer the stiffs they have on Sportsnet to JB. Hell, even fans of other teams have said they like the JB/JR tandem.

Gord Miller is better but I'd rather have Bonsie on the TSN games too.

It's because sportsnet thinks they have to be unbiased so they get national crews and often overcompensate by talking about opposing teams even though no one watching CBC gives a shit about the Lightning. Maybe if it was the Canadiens I could understand it

From physical leaf players to buzzin' crowds, this is perhaps the most hostile of an environment I've seen in Scotiabank Arena.
At least I don't recall games where the opposing players were yapping with the fans while in the box. Thats got to fire up the boys in some way esp those who TO boys like JT, MM, Gio and ROR.

I do understand that having National game like HNIC, you need to be unbias. I just think that they should offer option on HNIC, like on CBC, they are the National one and while on the same time on Sportsnet, you can have local board cast like Bowen. But if they do that, they will realise the ratings will drop like 70% on CBC during HNIC.

Still want Nylander and Tavares separated. And more shots from Matthews.

Nothing more from Marner, hope this game take away some off the pressure and keep him playing on instinct.

Good effort in the o-zone, but the amount of missed passes and clears in the d-zone will bite them in the ass when in Tampa... I hope that Keefe puts that under a microscope and tries to sharpen it before game 3.

Tampa is without Cernak and Hedman. No reason for Leafs to not come home up 3-1 in teh series especially since tampa lost palat and mcdanaugh as cap casualties. tampa is a much weaker team

They could be back? I haven’t heard anything but game time decisions for them

But regardless, this leaf team is better than this tampa team

Last year they were evenly matched, this year they aren’t the same two teams and they’re no longer evenly matched

It’s all the mental game now, we know Tampa has it, have the leafs developed it?

Not surprised the bottom 6 had a good game. They always have a good game when our 4 big boys dominate and Keefe finally did something correct by putting O'Reilly down there. I hope Keefe sticks to starting line 1 or 2 next game this time around though. This guy handed Mik and Engvall the keys after they had a nice game.

This guy Nylander. Amazes me how he stick handles through teams in the playoffs. He's the only Leaf who navigates like that the past few playoffs. He walked the line and had ice in his veins showing off his agility and side stepping. I hope people know what play I'm talking about. Then the way he strategically got lost, then put on the jets for Tavares goal was magic. He's what I call "finesse grit"

He can skate it in and shoot, shoot from standing, High IQ navigation, crash the net , move players around, drop the shoulder and make space and play make. There's no stopping this guy in the playoffs.

Nylander. Skated up from his zone, said thank you to Schenn while zooming past with the puck, jets were on, then quick pass to Rielly, to the net with a tip forcing Vasilevskiy to pop out a rebound, right to Tavares, backhand bar down. Beauty 4-1 goal.

If Knies continues to play like he did last night, it allows us to play a legitimate offensive talent on the 3rd line with ROR and personally I think three well balanced lines capable of providing offense is a better setup than stacking your top 2 lines and praying the bottom 6 can do something. That sequence where the puck was dumped in and Knies won a footrace to the puck, got control of the puck along the boards and fed ROR with a quick pass right in the slot was very impressive from a skilled player.

I saw a lot of doom and gloom after game 1, expecting a sweep etc

Hopefully after seeing last night people remember what this team is capable of. Its just the consistency that always remains an issue. Hopefully that changes this year.

The thing that stood out to me from last night's game was that Tampa didn't have any dmen who could make a breakout pass or skate out of the zone with possession. I figured it would have been Sergachev but he surprisingly was not great at it.

I think if I were to put myself in the shoes of Cooper the adjustments I'd make on Tampa's side:

  1. Rush Hedman back. He's one of the best in the league at doing it the breakout pass. You bring him back, assuming he can play even at 50% and those defensive zone breakdowns don't happen. It's really evident how important breakouts are in modern hockey when you don't have the ability to make one but most fans don't really see it and often attribute bad defense to things like guys not blocking shots or something.
  2. This is something the Leafs do; their forwards often hang further back in the zone than most teams and it gives their dmen a safe easy short pass to make to a skilled forward who handles the breakout themselves. Tampa started doing this a lot more in the second period.
