Breaking up Matthews and Marner and keeping it that way was a good sign.

Engvall also looked like he had an extra coffee before the game tonight.
Nylander seems to play better away from Tavares (I've been saying this for a couple of years).

At the moment at least, Matthews and Nylander look better than Matthews and Marner.

My concern is that Tavares and Marner are the two players most likely to turn the puck over, and having them together may be asking for trouble.

Also Tavares has only two ES points this year that Nylander hasn't either scored or assisted on. Nylander has twice that (half his ES points are without JT). (Basically even ES ice time - JT with 5 seconds more per game).

JT needs Willy more than AM does, but is it worth sacrificing Willy?

Oh yea, there's definitely no concern if you are relying on Jordie Benn game winning goals and coming back down 2 against the shittiest team in the league
The Leafs are not relying on Jordie Benn game winning goals and coming back down 2 against the shittiest team in the league. It happened tonight though.

A win is a win, but this was more a Vancouver loss than anything. They need to tighten up the basic mistakes.

I think you're the one who is lost my friend... Scabs forum is over there! In case you didn't get it muffin... Engval's nickname is Giraffe.

You really think you are smart don't you LOL?

1st of all, I wasn't referring to Engvall/Giraffe correlation. Pretty well everyone knows that by now Einstein.

2nd, get it into your head, not everyone living in Quebec is a Habs fan. I can assure you I've been a die-hard Leaf fan much longer than you. Most likely before you were born.

It is the suffering of animals that I object to. Maybe you get enjoyment out of seeing animals suffer but I can assure you most folks don't.

And please don't call me your friend willya. By now I know enough about you that I wouldn't wanna be associated with your kind.

Now, as I said b4, get lost.

ps. and by the way, who died made you the king telling any Leaf fan around here to get lost the moment they criticize their own team fcol!

If you have three more wins than losses, then you are 3 games above .500. If you were 8-8-3, you would be .500.

They are 3 games above .500. Jesus christ, I didnt think I needed to explain this.
Problem is the 3 point game has ruined the definition of .500. You can't make league wins equal losses unless you include overtime and shootout losses as losses.

I'm 100% against the suffering of animals but that looked like nature to me; whatcha going to do?

Give marner and Tavares a defense first linemate who doesn't take dumb penalties.

I don't think those lions were big fans of the Smiths

If there’s any hope of the Leafs hitting a higher gear Marner will have to snap out of junior mode. And Matthews will have to score a lot more whomever he’s with. But yeah Nylander and Matthews have way better flow for now. Tavares has been a PP beast so hopefully that just continues.

Kalli - the last 5 games since the Sammy injury has been decent: 2 wins, 1 reg loss, 1 OT loss, 1 shared victory against Boston. I haven't added it up, but I'm pretty sure his save% in those games is respectable.

Leafs when they lose to bad teams: "This team always plays down to the level of their competition."
Leafs when they beat a bad team: "LOL, they won against a bad team, they're still losers."

Leafs have quietly crept up into a tie for 5th place in points in the entire league (as of now, teams are still playing tonight). Enjoy it. The team has lots of warts but is this so bad?

Lots of trolls here.

We ain’t perfect, but it’s early and things are looking up. What team isn’t saying that now?

We said the same things when we’re sitting at the top behind Tampa and Boston for a couple years and same result.

Maybe this honest reflection will result in seeing what works and doesn’t. Someone needs to honestly sit Marner down with a sports shrink to assess why he feels he has to dipsy doodle so much. He’s been around too long to know it bites him in the ass more often than not.

Go leafs!

Good win something to build on I guess.

Not sure how much of the Salming tribute they showed on tv but the Leafs did a great job there.

The Salming tribute has been the best this franchise has done. Usually they find a way of goofing this stuff up but it was pure class this time. I'm reading all over the place about rival fans crying their eyes out.

.907 save % and 2.33 gaa.

Not great, but considering how the team has played in front of him, not too bad.

For comparison, last year we had:
Jack Campbell .914 2.64
Joseph Woll .911 2.75
Erik Kallgren .888 3.31
Petr Mrazek .888 3.34
Michael Hutchinson .857 4.57

Thanks for adding that up. I kind of figured he'd be around .910 the last 5 games. Hey, I'll never say he's an NHL caliber starter, but he's managed to get us through a spot where it looked like we were potentially boned.

LOL that is such a garbage take. The only thing to take out of that Benn goal was the reaction from the rest of the team. The dude hasn’t even played a game and they treated him like mats sundin. That’s what a real team looks like. If anything, this is a step forward. Obviously nobody was “relying” on him. Such a trash post.

Leafs have a lot of skill on the team. Sure.

And here is the realization I have made over the years.

So do a lot of teams.

Skill is not overrated. But it's overrated.

They shows the whole thing. It was great. Just watched it again and makes you wonder why didn’t the boys come out flying and how the heck did Lidstorm not become a Leafs, lol.
