That wasn't the call out -
The statement made was that we can't keep up with a high tempo team like the Leafs - BS

We lost so the statement would be somewhat correct. Canadiens did it to us, Colorado usually does it to us, Carolina did it to us. All built with same model. We need to defend better if we expect to keep up with teams. Helle can't bail us out every night.

I am curious what the long term game plan is for the team. It seems that we are still insisting on playing a low event game despite the type of talent we have. Is the plan to eventually open it up when Moe feels that he has enough puck movers who are solid defensively?

just found it interesting.

I think you know the answer to this question Surixon but don`t really like it.... . In a nutshell, Maurice has made clear that he favors low-risk conservative hockey above all else. He almost assuredly has no intention to "open it up"and will continue to prepare his game plan accordingly.

Hahaha, yeah I am probably in denial. Still can't see how Chevy is onboard with this type of plan long term given who we keep drafting and developing. Maybe when the older vets ruled the roost and carried the team this type of game plan made sense. Now that the team is clearly being driven by high octane kids I highly doubt its the best system long term.

It also might be a reason for Maurice being in a lame duck coaching year.

Simply put Niku needs to be put in the lineup for anybody not named Pionk or Morrissey, if you can't move your feet in this league you shouldn't be in this league..........................release the FLOW
No he doesnt we were just fine when helle was playing like an nhl starter.

Correction: We were doing "just fine" when Helle was playing like an "all time great" goalie with some of the best results for a goalie in the cap era. Now that his numbers are starting to regress to merely "NHL starter" we are getting lit up.

Do you believe we would be more appreciably more successful as a 'track meet' team though? Sure, we have a talented group of forwards. But I feel every team has a talented group of forwards. And some have a better group than we do.

Jets haven't been losing (or winning) low event games during this last stretch of 8. They've pretty much been high-scoring gong shows.

Connor Scheif Laine is our only line.

The Wheeler experiment Isnt working anymore. Blake cant keep up with jack and nik...

But our D zone play as a whole, just isn't good enough.... Really the 2nd goal was a crippler and a huge turnover.. 1st one is just... A moment.

I guess Im listening to Maurice and hes just.. I dunno, i think.. Losers of 6 of last 8, just.. Not good. Jets despite the shots, never were in it tho.. A 1 line team right now...

Change is coming
Neither the Leafs or Jets will win a round IF they make the playoffs.

That was the first game I've seen where I can place the blame for the loss solely on our D. Helle was bad but there were way too many unforced errors.

I don't want a straight up track meet, but I want the pendulum to be more towards high event hockey then low event. With Maurice we are one of the lowest event offensive teams in the league and we still give up a crazy amount of chances.

When we have the puck and are going at teams we put them off balance which allows us to retain more possesion and create more chances. We also tend to give up fewer shots but perhaps a few more odd man rush attempts against. Granted we need some help on defense if we are to play a more high event game.

It's why I refuse to go to a Leafs game. It could be the last game left in our ST draft and I would pass it over for a preseason game. It has gotten worse every year as more tickets are available. At this point I wouldn't go to a Leafs game if I was given the tickets the beer was free and I got a paid cab ride home.

Habs games are just as bad.

Top line looked really, really good!! Other forward lines not so much. 2nd line looked particularly slow and poor. Chevy has to do something about this D next summer or nothing will change. Helly worst but he has stolen a lot of games this season and it happens. I'm on the Surixon bandwagon when it comes to utilizing the type of talent that was drafted.

I always like to say offense comes from defense. Preventing/regaining possession in your own end and moving the puck up quickly to your forwards, blah, blah etc. So I think we're both correct here in a way. I also would like to see more events. But I honestly feel our forwards are trying to be as 'offensive' as they reasonably can; it's just that our D is floundering. Also, our 4th line.

Yes Maurice probably trends more to the conservative side, but not egregiously so IMHO. I think a lot of the low-event hockey stems from the (in)ability of our back-end thus it limits what Mau may be willing to try. Personnel influences system which influences personnel...

Fully revamped defensive group next year hopefully. If we replaced everyone but Morrissey of the six guys on the ice today, would not be upset. Even Pionk who I like.

Why the hell would you want to get rid of Pionk? He’s been our most consistent performer on D so far. That just makes zero sense, especially at his price.

The Jets can’t keep high percentage scoring chances down playing low event hockey. They don’t have a snowballs chance in hell of surviving a high event game with the back end they have, even with a guy like Niku.

Besides, they pumped 50 shots on net, that’s pretty eventful. What would have made it more eventful is scoring a few more times, they had plenty of chances, just couldn’t find it. Tonight wasn’t a system issue, it was our goalie sucked issue, with a dash of D in over their heads thrown in.

Hellebuyck has been playing like an .850 goalie the past month, that is no where near 'average starter' of course we've been getting lit up with 1980's level goaltending statistics

I thought something was interesting tonight. We got down early which didn't allow the team to settle into its more passive low event system. The team was forced to attack hard and play a real aggressive offensive game. I have long sense thought that most of our core excel in this type of system and that was true tonight.

Scheifele was back to being a zone entry fiend and the Leafs couldn't contain our top line off the rush. This in turn opened up the cycle for second chance opportunities.

Its also the type of system that is built for both JoMo and Pionk on the back end as both are smart at picking their spots. They also have the speed to create odd man rushes and layered attacks.

Ehlers/Roslovic are also built for that type of game.

In the system Ves/Heinola/Niku plus a young guy like Harkins are also geared for it.

Naturally some of our players are also geared for the low event game like Lowry/Copp/Our depth vets and AHL dmen.

I am curious what the long term game plan is for the team. It seems that we are still insisting on playing a low event game despite the type of talent we have. Is the plan to eventually open it up when Moe feels that he has enough puck movers who are solid defensively?

I have been saying all season that PoMo is playing the exact opposite style than the team should be.
