Helly plays half decent and this is a different game , STOP playing the puck Helly you can't do it , jesus he's bad at that and i really think that first goal rattled him . Good effort by the Jets , what are you gonna do , Anderson played better than Helly , alot better .

Well said Jets 31 --I think the shots were 33-11 for the Jets after 2 periods. Helle gave them the 1st goal by that blooper from behind the net, the Sbisa gave them another gift to make it 2-0, with very few shots.

The Jet's never gave up though, and kept coming, so I really liked that. I think for the next game against the Leafs they should start Brossoit, and maybe move Perrault up to the 2nd line, and Roslo down to the 3rd line.

The score was "not" indicative of this game --this was a very competitive hockey game, "except" our Goaltending was terrible. 3 soft goals, and you can't do that against an offensive machine like Toronto.

I think the Jet's take the next game in TO. They should take a lot of positives from this game.

So completely true. Absolutely cannot seem to handle teams that are high tempo.

Some of that is due to the fact Maurice likes to employ slow moving dmen who can't move the puck. He feels there physicality helps in a low event system. Problem is a lot of Eastern teams play a high speed, high event offense which can pick apart our slow dmen and our passive system.

Not often do you pull a goalie after 2 goals though I agree Maurice waited too long.
From Mau's post-game interview he said the times he's pulled him were more because the team in front of him wasn't producing anything. So in this game he wanted to give him the chance to fight through it because he's earned it (I guess given that the skaters were producing a ton of opportunities in the second). I think he said something about Bucky wanting to go in for the third too. But no point in that, just get ready for the road.

They had 8 shots through half the game. They picked us apart all right.

I agree with this - Potato -Sbiza Dhalstrom and Poolman, just don't have the speed needed --especially against those fast, swarming Eastern teams. Would not be a bad idea to get Niku in the lineup --at least he has the speed, and will move the puck out. Also pick us up points in the offensive zone.

Other than Niku , who do we have that can replace Sbisa or Bitetto ? The only way to get better defensemen is by trade or at the draft and i don't want to trade Ehlers , Laine or Connor . Sure would be nice to have one of our best defensemen playing , Buff would help this defense like crazy right now .

Yup - we're hooped until we can add a few capable bodies back there -
Buff is key -hope that sorts itself out soon one way or the other.

I thought something was interesting tonight. We got down early which didn't allow the team to settle into its more passive low event system. The team was forced to attack hard and play a real aggressive offensive game. I have long sense thought that most of our core excel in this type of system and that was true tonight.

Scheifele was back to being a zone entry fiend and the Leafs couldn't contain our top line off the rush. This in turn opened up the cycle for second chance opportunities.

Its also the type of system that is built for both JoMo and Pionk on the back end as both are smart at picking their spots. They also have the speed to create odd man rushes and layered attacks.

Ehlers/Roslovic are also built for that type of game.

In the system Ves/Heinola/Niku plus a young guy like Harkins are also geared for it.

Naturally some of our players are also geared for the low event game like Lowry/Copp/Our depth vets and AHL dmen.

I am curious what the long term game plan is for the team. It seems that we are still insisting on playing a low event game despite the type of talent we have. Is the plan to eventually open it up when Moe feels that he has enough puck movers who are solid defensively?

just found it interesting.

I love my city so much.

It just sucks when almost half of the crowd feels like they are traitors.

Seriously, half my section was Leafs fans. I could of sworn most of the people in my row had Jets jerseys on the last time I saw them.

It was a sad event. I gave my father in-law heck for selling his off to Leafs fans for tonight. Embarassing night for the fans and the franchise when a home game turns out to be a roadgame.

Who said anything about textbook hockey?
But while on the topic, do you think the Leafs played Textbook hockey? Is that why we couldn't keep up with their "tempo" and could only manage 50 shots while holding them to 22?
Yes, I will carry on - thanks
I would get it if we lost 6-3 and were out shot 50 to 22 but we didn't we out shot Toronto 50 to 22 . I don't know , we win and get out shot and we suck , we out shoot a team big time and we suck , i guess we just suck .

That wasn't the call out -
The statement made was that we can't keep up with a high tempo team like the Leafs - BS

A List of Villains:
  • F. Andersen - he's an exceptional goalie
  • K Cheveldayoff - Defence by waiver wire is absurd. His summer 2019 was awfully ballsy even with the unexpected Byfuglien situation
  • P. Maurice - that series win against Nashville was his career peak. Getting outcoached ever since. Jets success is tied to skill of our top players. Do we have any kind of tactical advantage? Anything to make life easier for our average players?
  • C. Huddy - what does he do? I assume his job security is tied to a lack of responsibility? Is he like the assistant coach for 7 & 8 year olds who opens the gate but does nothing else. I covet the defensive breakouts of just about every other team in the league

I'd say yes, that is the plan - hopefully we fill the holes quickly.

If Buff comes back healthy, relatively rust-free and with passion to play.

The above for Kulikov too, even though I am no fan...he's better than Sbisa and Bitetto.

And if Dahlstrom improves and steps up his game.

Unfortunately, I'm not optimistic about any of those happening. And my username is synonymous with optimism. I sort of feel our offense will need to be absolutely lights out for us to make the playoffs down this back stretch. Because our D will be tatters for awhile.

That will be tough since I feel offense is initially generated by the back end.

It's why I refuse to go to a Leafs game. It could be the last game left in our ST draft and I would pass it over for a preseason game. It has gotten worse every year as more tickets are available. At this point I wouldn't go to a Leafs game if I was given the tickets the beer was free and I got a paid cab ride home.
