The 2nd line could be the worst defensively in the entire league.

The prospect of Nylander replicating his stint with CBJ alongside his brother is intriguing. Holmberg would have to be the defensive conscience of that line. Extras are Reaves and Timmins.

I feel like when I do this Marner doesn’t fit anywhere except on JTs wing and I don’t want JT in the top 6.

It’s obvious Marner and Matthews don’t play well together as their game devolves into a prissy ballerina game. And Marner can’t play in the bottom 6 because we have no one better. And we have no one good enough to play 2C unless we try Willy but I cringe at the thought of Willy and Marner on the same line.

A. Nylander shouldnt be in the Leafs lineup. He was signed to an AHL contract and isnt currently eligible to play in the NHL so there's no way he's in thr starting lineup for this year.

Also the comments about us having no 2nd line C are  extremely ridiculous... JT is clearly overpad, but suggesting a player who was a 30/30 player with decent defense and exceptional on draws last year is insane. He's getting severely over criticized because of his salary and our lack of playoff success.

Now check his playoff production. And what did he produce away from 120 point Willy last season? He had the worst year since he was a rookie and isn’t getting better. He’s coattailing PP1 time hardddd right now.

And decent defensively? He’s a minus player on a team that’s like +200 in the last 5 years.

1. He's not a minus player.
2. He only put up 20pts on the PP last year.
3. He's still put up 2nd line level points in the playoffs every year except last year which the entire tram struggled to score.

Edit: Fact check yourself please before you spew lies.

Yes he is, he’s a -8 across the last 5 season. and he logged over 66% of the pp time on the season. 20 points is a disgrace
Cherry picking by removing his first season and now you're changing the argument to say he isnt good on the PP? You just said he was getting all his points on the PP and they were inflating his point total.

Is he a PP merchant or not?

2023-2024 At 5v5 ... JT was at + 9 last year, his main teamate Nylander was at -1

1000004127.jpg

2022-2023 was at +6
2021-2022 at - 4
2020-2021 : at + 9

last 4 year at 5v5 he had been at + 20, exemple during that 4 ywar, Nylander ( his main partner) was at + 19

The fact he has been on the ice on random OT 3v3 goal or when leafs pulled off their goalie to try to tie the game change absolutly nothing.

I gotta think if the leafs thought Alex Nylander had a legitimate chance to make the team they would have signed him to an nhl deal with a high ahl 2 way kicker to scare cheaper teams off claiming him. The AHL deal is Bellows, HoSang territory. He would have to do some crazy things to warrant a contract and a spot.

It's hard to say because I don't think the lineup is finished.

Got to figure out Robertson.

Looks like they have to replace Hakanpaa

If Robertson doesn't sign you need to find a LW.

We don't feel done to me.

my guess right now is Brad signs Pacioretty after he trades Robertson and we see:

Domi-Matthews-Nylander
Pacioretty-Tavares-Marner
Knies-Holmberg-Mcmann
Dewar-Kampf-Jarnkrok
Reaves

Rielly-Liljegren
McCabe-Tanev
OEL-Timmins
Benoit

its probably more likely we see Rielly-Tanev together but I like the idea of having a real shut down pair if he's paired with McCabe instead. I wouldn't mind seeing Timmins finally get a shot (at least to start) so we can keep everyone on their strong sides. Him and OEL can be fed O-zone starts and PP2 time.

Benoit is better than Timmins he's proved it.

Rielly Tanev
Benoit. McCabe
OEL. Liljegren
Timmins

Woll
Stolarz

Having big fast two way players like McMann and Knies on the top lines plays right into Berube’s fast pressure game.

I think we might see Tavares transition into a 3rd line centre. We need one so why not. Nylander has had some experience as a centre.

Timmins will probably have another great camp. Maybe avoid injury this time? Mostly sleeping on this guy. Some of the better offensive instincts in the back end. Just needs a full season to establish himself and clean up his defensive gaffs. OEL signing has made it tough for him to make the team though.

Can’t have both.

I think Robertson comes to his senses. He has no option except to go play in a British beer league while holding out for a trade. Play and sell yourself into a trade. Someone gave him bad advice.

Why is it that every year they have to create lines and hope they work out rather than knowing who plays where?
When you have to mix and match and find people to play center, you’re too thin. Somehow people are shocked that they lose in the playoffs.

Surely Berube knows his lines.

We didn't really have a coach before - hopefully this year will be different, after a bit of experimenting to see who fits where.
