Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign RHD John Klingberg (1 year, $4.15M) | UPD 11/23: LTIR

Ahead of Rielly as well? Because that's where Klingberg is going to play.

I think Klingberg as of now the best fit there.

I don’t think that’s necessary.

Last time we randomly tried to replace Rielly on the top powerplay it went horribly.

But yes, on a top powerplay where Marner does the majority of puck carrying, I would trust Timmins. He has a solid shot as well.

Please...
dude sucked in one post-season, got suspended in another and was so-so in their cup run scoring a timely goal that makes his overall contribution seem greater than it was. overall dudes a liability and honestly an addition by subtraction in most cases.

Kerfoot and Holl?
Do you think the only subtractions from last year are Kerfoot and Holl? Might want to take another look.
Despite your attempts to downplay them, Kerfoot and Holl were also good middle-tier players, and losing them isn't as far off a Kadri as you'd like to pretend.

I can’t believe the collective meltdown on the forum. Would expect it from the neck beard dorks on Reddit, but here? Just embarrassing.

Klingberg was in demand on this very forum just a year ago. He bet on himself in Anaheim on a 1yr deal and unfortunately had a terrible year in the Dallas Eakins (one of the worst coaches in NHL history) system. He got traded at the deadline and was solid for Minnesota.

He’s been one of the best offensive d-men since he entered the league and addresses needs such as size and physicality on the back end and a legitimate shooting threat from the point.

Grow up. It’s a 1 year deal. And it’s embarrassing reading posts like these in the GDT, but even more so reading these on July 1st.

Not even close, It's a shame that's how you remember him.

Well Colorado enjoyed having them on their cup team, so there's that.

How the hell did he cost us 4.15 million, though? Who were we bidding against?

He has the chance to come here and play in a player-friendly system on an elite regular season team. We have so much to offer yet he still costed us a lot of valuable cap space

He's basically Barrie, except older, more expensive, worse offensively, worse defensively, and coming off of his worst season instead of a top tier playoffs.
Will be interesting to see some of the comments around here from people who hated Barrie.
Clarify for us big guy - which one was the trade and which one was the UFA signing?

The weird thing for me is that Connor Timmins performed extremely well offensively when in the lineup last season and is also RHD and makes 1.1M.

This signing is just so needless in every sense. It’s a waste of money.

I’m having trouble understanding the vision.
Treliving wants a strong point shot on every pairing. We're not going to be ignoring point shots anymore, it's gonna be guys in front of the net every shift with them.

Would have preferred Lilly get PP2 mins and not blow our load on this guy.
Lilly might not even be on the team for very long.

You mean those last few years where the cap has climbed a whopping 2m in 4 years? its as if we don't even bother trying to be objective in our observations these days.

Not getting sucked into an argument about what constitutes bad management in a cap world.. just like house prices always go up, right?

No. Holl signed a 3 year deal at almost 4 mil. -78 lol about half was from 50 games on the not so mighty ducks. I would bet he improves this year.
I hope he improves but he is just bad defensively his whole career. He is like when we had Barrie here.....is good offensively but defensively he is just not as good. In fact he is probably worse then Holl defensively. And Holl played some tough minutes for us. Especially when Reilly was out.

Treliving said in his PC today, that he’s still looking to address his defence and also his forward unit. Let’s just wait and see what it looks like when all the pieces are in place.

The hot takes are as expected, but let’s all take a breath and see what else happens. If this was all he planned on doing, yeah, I would be very concerned, but there’s still more coming. Let’s try to hope for the best!

Well, they replaced him with Compher effectively and lost in the first round to an expansion team.

Plus, salary cap concerns, which we know all about it, right?
they chose keeping erik johnson, extending manson and paying nuke individually over keeping kadri. They could have not done one of those and had the room to keep naz, if they wanted.

Well, someone needs to play defence.

They may now want to swap him for Nuke given what's happened with him.

Okay so show me those the predictions in september 2019 that knew the cap would rise 2m total over the next 4 off seasons, and not 2-4m annually?

how much D did either of manson or specifically Johnson do for them last year? was it D or lack of scoring depth that sunk them this spring? how do their recent moves tell us about what they think of that decision last year?

bolded the important part for you.. again, not getting sucked into this pedantic argument that people put forward every time another person on the board brings up how badly the Leafs painted themselves into the corner.

Mind you, the Leafs aren't the only ones, but GMs have always been pretty dumb about spending other people's money.

The cap hit is the issue. Not sure we were bidding against anyone. Thats alot of money to give to a guy coming off the year he had.

They’ve been in the playoffs every year of those guys’ careers and frequently have their playoffs stopped by a team that marches to the finals. They’re competitive, they just haven’t broken down the door yet.
With their D alone there are no doors they can break down.

Not the player he once was and hopefully he’s not Riellys partner. Reilly neeeds to be pair with a shut down guy. Like you know….Schenn. Either way I’ll stop crying over split milk. Curious what else shakes out here before pick drop. Just don’t like the direction we took this off-season. Reaves is great, Klingberg is kinda meh.
