Confirmed with Link: Leafs sign RHD John Klingberg (1 year, $4.15M) | UPD 11/23: LTIR

bolded the important part for you.. again, not getting sucked into this pedantic argument that people put forward every time another person on the board brings up how badly the Leafs painted themselves into the corner.

Mind you, the Leafs aren't the only ones, but GMs have always been pretty dumb about spending other people's money.
so what would your solution be? just simply not sign all your good players because maybe a once in a lifetime world event might go down? I don't get this argument at all.

Clarify for us big guy - which one was the trade and which one was the UFA signing?
The one where we got the older, more expensive, worse player coming off a worse season and no additional pieces was the UFA signing.

I actually think he's going to play well with us and if he doesn't it's just one year anyway. Atleast there's another legit offensive threat on defense and a good point shot.

All the people complaining about cap space I mean it’s fairly obvious trades are coming. Nylander and Brodie are gone, probably Murray as well and maybe Muzzin.

Umm okay we still need 2-3 top 9 forwards as is and dumping Brodie leaves no RD who are better than average in their own end. Also a LD to bump Giordano down the chart, which is what I wish they'd spent some of this Klingberg cash on.

This guys salary is 5 x Gustafson. There’s gotta be something they see in him that a one trick pony OFD doesn’t have. You’d think anyways…

Guys in their 30s still find some big seasons in them. I like how old guys schenn acciarri and slower than tavares 1/2 of who he once was O'Reilly are huge losses but a 30 year old that can still Crack 1 more elite offensive season for a dmen is proven washed.

Do people remember who our top forwards are. If puck can get less messy from the dzone up the effect will be drastic. Matthews marner nylander will be at their best if the transition from the 5 other idiots on D is good. Right now it's a total mess when Rielly is on the bench. We have no one else. Klingberg is a good gamble.

Well, Klingberg didn't use to be awful in his own end whereas Gustafsson always has been, and anyway Keefe had zero confidence in Gustafsson so it was pretty clear he wasn't coming back.

I feel like I'm reading someone sober up. The last few sentences are so clear and to the point. I had to read the first paragraph a couple times. Hope you take that for a laugh and not a jab.

How the hell did he cost us 4.15 million, though? Who were we bidding against?

He has the chance to come here and play in a player-friendly system on an elite regular season team. We have so much to offer yet he still costed us a lot of valuable cap space
He signed 1 year 7 million just last year.

The D that has been in and around top 5-7 in pretty much every measurable metric that isolates skater impact for the last 3+ seasons? Are we still unable to see that this team's issues is crunch time scoring ability and not that theres a lack of knuckle draggers on the blue line?
Their D was probably the worst in this yrs playoffs. I didn’t watch much of the Westrn conference so I don’t know, but there can’t be a slower group out there.
It was fitting that a bonehead play by a cement footed D man ended their season. Cannot win with D like that. Impossible.

Yes, they can’t score either. Not only did Dubas build a D that can’t win, he did the same thing at forward . Weak slow soft players.

Guess what, goaltending hasnt been up to par either.

And coaching.

The team was so poorly constructed that in the playoffs, not an exhibition game, but in the playoffs, they didn’t know their line combos. Trial and error in the playoffs. 11-7

I really liked Klingberg during that Stanley Cup final run by the Stars, but that was 4 years ago.

If he can regain that form, I think people will like him. He was feisty during that run.

If we want the Montour kind of playoff points we have to actually be willing to gamble on the Montours of the league.

If Rielly had another D putting up points as well this team would have won the cup this year.

Klingberg addresses an issue that many on this board have had with this team. That Rielly is the only one who can reliably carry the puck and generate offence from the back end.

If Keefe can figure out how to mitigate his flaws to some degree, this might be something people will like.

Why spend 4 million on Klinger if they got these trades in the works? Unless there for real young players and picks.

How does Klingberg help our transition game? He’s good from the point, that doesn’t mean he’s good from behind his goal line.

It concerns me a little though that even during that run he was a -5

Not a bad signing. He's not bad as he was with the Ducks, he's not good as he was before either

But 1 year, maybe trade him on the deadline if he doesn't pan out
We needed a shot from point

We have been crying about a point shot for long long time

He does have an offensive game. Just don't play him last 5 minutes of a hockey game
I can see Coach Keefe doing just exactly that already.

Klingberg can be another option for Marner and Willy’s superior creativity and as a result open up Matthews for different launching spots

How many playoff games were lost watching Brodie and Gio shoot the puck into shin pads?

If Aki Klingberg can get the puck on net this team has become exponentially better over night.
