We can go over the cap by 8M+ in the summer. We can send the under 1M contracts to the minors. There can be trades.
There has been no report of that, but maybe.

Why would he sign before arb if we're squeezing him
This isn't a charity
When we go over it gives the other GMs licence to absolutely screw us in trades because they know we're desperate.

Yeah, it wouldn't be the best thing to go over, but the point is that you can. The Marleau deal was an over 35 contract with a week or less before the signing bonus was due, and he couldn't be bought out without still taking the full cap. And the Petry deal- he was never worth what some fans wanted in the first place. Besides, he wanted a US team.
Yes you can go over but the point is once you do every gm in the league circles to try to screw you for the cap dump
Additionally we currently have like 4 contracts over league min we're even willing to move not including Sandin/engvall everyone else is either at 1 mil or less or we're never moving

Of course there are better solutions than using the cap cushion. Like plcing players in the minors or making a trade. No argument here. Like I said the cushion can be used.
Several potential reasons, but I’ll go with the most obvious. If he wants a multi year extension

I just noticed this today. This is not a small sample set. It's a virtual lock that we cannot expect him to help out offensively in the playoffs.

AubeKubel has 2 career PO goals in 27 games, Jarnkrok 4 in 74, Gaudette 0 in 10. Then there's Engvall with 0 in 17. The Leafs are going to need to add forwards at the trade deadline if they actually want do something in the playoffs.

This player is living off that saucer pass from Kerfoot. Dubas is addicted to depth guys we can't win with in the playoffs. Murray Engvall kerfoot holl muzzin jarnkrok.....how much money is that now that should have been spent better / opened up? The only depth guy we dont complain about ever is still a 4C when properly placed.
