This has to be the biggest question. Signing him is fine, but for 4 freaking years???!!!!

Everyone of these "Confirmed with Link" threads ends up being a punch line.

Dubas keeps doing it to himself.

Not only is TOR committed for 4 years, but they're going to have move 1 or 2 roster players to accommodate.

Does it make sense to ship off Kerfoot (I'm not a huge Kerfoot fan) to accommodate Jarkrok?

If Kyle had only drafted a lot better we would have Marlies graduates playing these roles and for less money/term.

Jarnkrok will be fine this season, but 4 years?

If cap rises, 2.1 should not be a problem in years 3 and 4 IMO. JT will also be off the books. There should be plenty of money to go around.

Kerfoot played a lot with JT and only mustered 13 goals. Jarnkrok can tie or even beat that for 2.1 mil on the 3rd line + the occasional game beside Nylander. Bye bye Kerfoot.

Yes, he signed Jarnkrok to be a Kerfoot replacement for 4 years at $1.4 million less of a cap hit. He will only be 34 when it ends, so any drop off will be minimal.

Not sure why people have any issues with a consistent 3rd liner who has always produced and is reliable. He's not too old (30), and the term is fine - perhaps 1 year less would have been ideal, but the lowered cap hit makes it all worthwhile.

I know Kerfoot isn't gone yet, but he did have 51 points last year. I'm only speculating that he'll be gone, but maybe Dubas will keep him. I suppose Holl, Engvall, Sandin will be gone.

If indeed Jarnkrok replaces Kerfoot then it's odd to me.

Yeah I'd expect him to be next to Kampf and Engvall as the defensive zone start line, aka the shut down line.

But during a season, there are shuffles and injuries, so I wouldn't be surprised if they try him out as a center or even in the top 6 as a glue player.
Feels like its the Kerfoot/Engvall plan where he can play middle, but it isnt ideal

Definitely not the player type the leafs were missing but hey let’s see what else Dubas has in store

It just boils down to Kerfoot is a pending UFA who will be priced out of Toronto as he is simply too expensive for the role he has. Jarnkrok can play all 3 forward positions, and he PK's. Basically he replaces the Kerfoot 'Swiss Army' knife role.

Sandin is not in a position of strength here, he pretty much has to take a Liljegren offer.

Engvall may have a case for a raise, and then we will have to find a trade. As it is right now, we have cap space to sign them both.
According to Capfriendly we only have a little over $756,000 available. Not sure how you figure we have enough left to sign those two players.

Considering the Leafs currently have a 38yrs old Dman and for the past two years they had Spezza and Jumbo. Yet some here worry about someone who will be 31 when the season starts and be 34 when his contract ends on a 2.1mil cap hit.
Almost all teams in the league have a 34 or older making 2.1mil in the league.
It's also an easy to move contract if need be.

That could work. Gonna depend who else they bring in.

Gonna be interesting to see whether he is only replacing Mik because I am thinking Kerfoot might have to also be moved to make room. JarnKrok and ??? in - Mik and Kerfoot out ???
I still think Kampf is a 4c but can play 3c mins due to pk. We can't have a comepletely offensively deprived third line in the playoffs again.

According to cap friendly that includes Anderson Gaudette and Simmonds who should be sent to the minors and we gain cap space that way.

Dubas doing dubas things. 4 years for a below average player. Wrong side of 30 too. MLSE step in before more damage is done by wonder boy.

Most teams definitely rely on players of that age category and it's nothing shocking. Three years would have been more comfortable though.

They probably know Kerfoot will be too expensive to re-sign, so having a replacement on the squad early isn't the worst idea.

You'd think the Leafs could get something really good for Kerfoot, a 50+ point player who is on a very low real dollar contract but he's also got such a vanilla factor, so you never know.

There's no reason to doubt that Jarnkrok can't match that production if he is given the same opportunity with similar linemates, and he costs 1.4 million less against the cap.

For three years the AVV might not be 2.1. Also let’s not act like this is the Marleau deal where no teams would take the last year of this contract unless with a sweetener.

Don't think anyone's acting like it's the Marleau deal. It's ok. The AAV is fine, and the length probably got stretched out to bring the money down. A lot of teams that aren't as top heavy as Toronto have a number of these contracts.

Its very unlikely Clifford and Anderson make the team. They will likely be sent down, adding 1.5 million in cap space to the already 765,000. Probably even send Simmons down as well. Technically thats just about enough to sign both Sandin and Engval with a 21 man roster which is likely the plan all along as in previous years. A trade is not necesarilly a foregone conclusion.
Regardless... I would like to see a re-allocation of Kerfoot's $3.5 million to someone with a different skillset.

Buy-out last year is $700k * 2.

This is when the Cap is supposed to be going up, so $1.4mm space in year 1 of buy-out and cap increase takes care of next year easily.

Did anyone watch him play in the playoffs for Calgary this year? How was he?
From what I heard and saw, he played well but was really snake bitten. However he didn't really fit in Calgary for some reason so hopefully it's better over here.
