Recently it's been rumored that Bertuzzi wanted a long term contract with the Leafs but the Leafs insisted on it only being 1 year. I'm going to assume that they chose this path only because of the uncertainty of the Nylander situation. If Nylander is indeed dealt this off season, I can definitely see Bertuzzi signing an extension in season baring he remains healthy.

They didn't insist on it, they wanted to 1do it but couldn't

Tyler Bertuzzi's career high in points is 62 and his cap hit this year will be 5.5 million. His highest ever games played in a season is 73, in 2018/19.

Brad Marchand's career high in points is 100 and his cap hit this year will be 6.125 million. He played 73 games last season.

Tyler Bertuzzi thinks that he is worth almost 90 percent of what Brad Marchand makes, even though he was only 60 percent as productive as Marchand in their most productive seasons. Furthermore, Brad Marchand won the Stanley Cup in 2011:

What justification does this player have for demanding a salary so close to this living legend?

You're comparing his contract to a guy that signed his contract 7 yrs ago when he had his career high of 61 pts and the cap was 10M less than what it is now. Marchand didn't break out till the following year.

I have a feeling the post is poking fun at the arguments where people ignore all information, context, and time of signing to instead only look at peak raw points and team accomplishments when making claims about contracts.

Whether he thinks that its a one year contract. If he doesnt produce he wont be getting $5.5 Million from us again. He has a chance to have a career year playing with our top 3.

On the one hand the Reaves contract is disgusting, on the other hand if Brad didn’t rush to sign Reaves as the top priority for the team he’d probably have enough money to have gotten Bertuzzi on the 6+ longterm deal he wanted.

Imagine if we committed to this guy long-term.

I’m really hoping he’s injured or something. Looks like Nick Ritchie out there.

The problem with both Bertuzzi and Domi are that they are both zero IQ hockey players. They literally look like they have no clue what they’re supposed to be doing out there. Maybe it’s coaching but who knows, they look utterly lost.

Coulda had bunting for cheaper. Shame the way that all played out.
I really wonder why Leaf mgmt had zero desire to bring him back. Sounded like he was close with Mathews and Marner. I know popular opinion is he was a distraction on the ice and with refs...but so are a lot of rat players including Marchand and M Tchuk. If anything we haven't had enough of those guys since the Tucker years. I have to wonder if it was something off ice they really didn't like. Doesn't add up to me.
