I truly hope the fans give Domi the ovation he deserves on opening night.

The rest of this team (Rielly aside) are all about the dollars first, winning second.

Thought he was getting 6mil or something. Isn't that what people were losing their shit about?

6 games in... and feeling like this one deserves a bump as a REALLY GOOD, underrated signing by Brad Treliving. You can't even argue the "age" thing and the contract turning sour like the Tanev / OEL deals... he's 29.

He has great alongside Matthews last year, and playing with Nylander this year has made him really dangerous.. Willy's got 5 goals already, but with the number of Grade A chances he's missed, Domi could easily have 3-4 more assists.

I get there are defensive warts in his game, and that trio is not exactly one I'd want out there defending a tight lead in a high pressure game.

However, the Leafs are in a bit of a unique situation with their #1 centre also being one of the best defensive centres in the NHL... if they can figure out how to put together a reasonable 3rd line that has a solid 2-way game.... they're going to be in really good shape. They've certainly got the pieces to do it as well.

I'm real glad he's stuck around. His passing is elite and the PASSION that he plays with can't be understated. Whenever he's on a line with legit top six talent he and his linemates cook offensively, whether he's at C or on the wing. Definitely wish he'd shoot more but when you've got a finisher like Nylander that isn't a terrible thing. Right now he, McMann, and Nylander are making beautiful music together as a line. If Berube and staff can get them to play with some more responsibility and discipline that could be a sneaky good second line.

Not even $4M! Hah, that's sweet,.for whatever reason I thought we signed him to 4x4. $3.75 is absolute robbery,

He has 2 really great attributes:

Skating and Passing.

He is a first line player in both and when he's playing with fast finishers like Matthews and Nylander he absolutely helps them and keeps up with them.

He is not a 3rd liner grinder who can drive a line. Play to his strengths.

Play him with stars like you are and gain the dividends. For the money he's making he's doing great and I expect this the entire duration of the contract.

I've always had a bias towards and against Max because I always thought his dad was a mutt.

But boy has he ever grown on me. Last year he started off really slow, but once he found his ground, he showed his worth. He's thriving now, and I think he looks great paired up with Nylander on a line.

$3.75 million per season for what he brings, and has the potential to still bring, seems like a bargain.

This... and I think that's honestly the challenge that he's faced the vast majority of his career being bounced around to different organizations.

He's a pass-first player, to an extreme fault. Much moreso than Marner... but also plays with a bit of fiestiness that coaches think "wow he was great in Montreal... he'll be a perfect 3rd line C".... but then to cover his defensive warts he "should" become an incredible 3rd line winger... It just doesn't work that way sometimes if you don't have the right linemates. The name on the back also probably hurts him a bit, simply because so many of the leagues coaches would have played against or with his dad.

This signing is the perfect way to actually "capitalize" on a big ticket Matthews or Nylander contract... rather than viewing it as paying $11.5m for Nylander, look at it as $15.25m for Nylander and Domi. That's not bad at all.

Bertuzzi 4 years x $5.5 million. 1 goal -4
Domi 4 years x $3.75 million 6 assists +6

Now, I didn't need this comparison to tell me I was happy picking Domi over Bertuzzi, but this absolutely was the right choice for Tre to make. Domi has played very well, but he can't be 10th in shots on goal at the end of the year, of our forwards. He needs to get more shots, and his signing will be a beauty.

That's a great way to look at it.

15.25 m (7.625 avg for 2) for a 100 point player and possibly a 70 point player for Domi and 88 is insane value.

If Domi hits 65-70 points playing mostly just 5 on 5 with just a bit of secondary power player time, it's ridiculous value. And then you add in the other elements to his game like his physicality and toughness, and it's just a match made in heaven.

Also on a team full of shooters (Matthews, Tavares, Robertson, McMann, Nylander, etc) Domi is a much-needed piece. We only have Domi and Marner as pure passers.

How can he have 0 goals in 19 games this season and 0 points in his last 13 games.

No puck luck?

Not to make excuses for him but he has missed the last practices with some sort of ailment. So likely not 100%. He started the year pretty well, he also hit 2-3 posts in that span. A bit unlucky.

Not good enough from Domi right now though. He needs to find some urgency and if he's injured, maybe it's time to sit out.

I think Domi is a bit snakebit but also he is even worse than Marner and Rielly usually are... SHOOT THE PUCK.

He'll get his points going soon, it would help if he played with a sniper. Nylander is too lone wolf. Domi should probably be with someone like McMann - old school direct to the net type shooter. Maybe Robertson too cause that guy isn't afraid to just shoot. The Leafs forward core is just all messed up because Matthews and Tavares are shoot first centers and Marner is a pass first winger. It is a frankenstein lineup.

Also he's been playing through an injury apparently. I'm sure he'll get going.

I hope he gets healthy and starts scoring soon.

Right now it looks like we should have signed Bertuzzi and let Domi go.

Domi hasn't been great so far this year, but Bertuzzi is even worse. This was kind of my worry that we'd have to shelter Domi and use him in such specific ways to get purely offensive results half the time... but Domi is a streaky player so hopefully he gets hot at some point...

He's definitely injured. He's had like 3+ maintenance days and his timing seems completely off. Usually he's at least good for one or two sweet passes a game.

He’s clearly struggling and hurting, but is playing through because AM is out. But he’s been so bad he should probably just gets whatever it is addressed.
