Honestly I'd go with a two year plan. I'm loving him atm but I'm still hesitant to give him a longer than 3. We also have a system that kind of allows players to work out as long as your name isn't Holl... Becuase Keefe loves him too muchHe seems to really like the team given his opportunity and the behind the scenes video we've seen of him.
I'd the Leafs wanted to go medium term (even say 3 years) I doubt there would be much hesitation. The team just has to believe he's going to be consistent enough to keep it up
Hopefully this opens up more players realizing how it's easy to make a name in Toronto.
Everyone loves this guy, and he's a dime a dozen player in the NHL [no offense to Benoit].
Body check and stand up for your teammates and everyone will love you in Toronto
Why a two way contract though? Just give him a one way contract, and pay the man. 2 years x 1 mil. 3 years x 1.25..The guy is blocking shots, being physical and defending. He is a perfect 6/7 D man. If he is willing to sign a 3x1 million dollar 2 way contract then he is a guy we should really look to keep. He is young, a decent skater and getting his bearings just focusing on D. I’m sure once he gets more comfortable he will add a few points.
Yeah try to get him on the max for 1 milWhy a two way contract though? Just give him a one way contract, and pay the man. 2 years x 1 mil. 3 years x 1.25..
Benoit played his most shifts in a game, first time over 20 minutes, last game. His game prior was a new high as well. Top 4 minutes. Keefe also had him out on D in the dying seconds to protect the lead, another new element here. The kid is ascending and hasn't stumbled with increasing tough matchups and defensive zone starts. He's clearly gaining the coach's confidence, his numbers are impressive, he looks more a stone cold steal with each game.
He was getting more ice time until they brought defensively challenged Timmins into the lineup and he was paired with him. Was 20 minutes in Edmonton and Calgary.Time to give this kid some more ice time
See what we really have
Efficient in his own end
Makes the safe play
Tough as nails hits everything in sight
Just what we need in the playoffs
I'd even go longer term to keep the cap hit low. At that price it is practically able to be completely buried now if he takes a step back4 yrs 1.4 mil a yr
He adds almost no offense
maybe a good time to work on a new contract?
i'm thinking 8 x 8
