He still has not been afflicted with Maple Leafs disease. I am impressed. Everybody that comes here since 16-17 has gotten soft almost immediately after coming here. Muzzin, Reaves, Bert, Domi, etc. But this guy has kept the disease at bay.

The French are typically good that way here. I think they are immune to the disease because they hate the Leafs so much that they play has hard as they can to entice MTL to trade for them.

Well he is a very pleasant surprise .. although i still wonder if he is playing over his head right now or if this is true growth in his game

If our star players had half the grit and effort of this guy we'd be in great shape.
They still produce more than half the offence it would be nice if they were grittier for sure but that’s not the issue he needs to build better lines split the stars up put Willy in the middle with players that compliment him but Tavares with players that compliment him that second line getting chances doesn’t mean it’s a good line they’re not finishing so that line needs to be changed

He never had the puck...

He is a good #8, but he is a bad hockey player and we should hope we don't see him play any games this year.

If he is 1/4th as good as Schenn I'd be surprised.

Schenn was playing like a #2D for us, if Benoit plays like a #6, I'd be happy.

LOL

That post didn't age well.

He is a real warrior the kind of player you want at your side in a tough playoff series.

He puts the team first and seems willing to do anything and everything within his abilities to help the team win.

When the going gets tough Benoit becomes even more effective and noticeable as one that doesn't disappear but goes about his business as usual.

Every time this thread gets bumped I think we’ve extended him and I get excited.

Looks like the longer it takes us to extend him, the higher the likelihood that he goes to UFA and someone else will sign him.
Same here. I also get excited when I see the thread Keefe extends bumped up thinking he finally got fired.

There’s no rush on Benoit though, it’s almost certain he’ll get re-signed. He’s an RFA after the season so we hold his rights.

Pretty sure he's RFA which is why there is no hurry.

Thank you both for clarifying his RFA status. That’s better!

Lol, I thought I was the only one who keeps thinking the Keefe bump is due to his firing!

Opinions on Niemela? Why do they keep signing these slugs but don't give him a chance?
There is a Prospects thread where you can find some information.

I was surprised to read that he’s still a RFA. We signed him as a free agent so it’s weird that he still maintains RFA status after that. Not that I’m complaining, love Benoit and want him to stay.

Same thing happened with Sammy last season. Both Him and Benoit were released by their former team without any qualifying offers, so signing them to the 1 year deal kept them both under the minimum age or term of service for UFA status, is how i believe it works.
