Sucks he ended up at 995 points. I'd have been fine with 1 more year with him knowing he'd be in the press box most of the time.

He still has some juice on the PP and in the faceoff dot, and even at ES he was fine when he wasn't playing with guys like Simmonds and Clifford, who look a lot more done than he does.

Not a full time guy anymore, but someone who still can come in once in a while and play. I just don't think Spezza wants to do that himself.

INCREDIBLE deal. I guess this means we’re trading one of Muzzin/Sandin?

Muzzin was really good in the playoffs, but not great in the regular season - I definitely think he’s slowing down, even if he did get back to playing great in the playoffs. Certainly worried that his game will drop off some more, and he won’t be able to ramp back up for the playoffs. If we can trade him for, say, a 2nd, I’d do it.

Rielly - Brodie
Gio - Liljegren
Sandin - ???

Where ??? is probably Holl or Boosh (if we re-sign Boosh and trade Holl). Good D and frees up cap space for goaltending and wingers.

Honestly I don’t know but I want it to happen. The only way it happens is if Kadri wants it to. I kind of hope he does.

I know it’s highly unprovable, but if it happened! Hoooboyy
That’s pretty much swapping Willie with Kadri and assuming Willie’s return will all the picks and prospects.
Unless Willie’s return is a goalie that proves he can lock down in playoffs and steal a game 7 or two. Trading Willie is really playing musical chairs. Imagine trading MM away and use that money to sign Kadri and another solid mid 6 player or a goalie.

3x3.75-4.5 move off kerfoot & Holl, effectively replace Holl with Gio’s 800k gives you up to 4.7 to be cap neutral.
He plays hard and can certainly help any teams top 6 that he steps into. But at 33 years old, I'd just hope it isn't anything too crazy. The deal you made up, seems reasonable and id be tempted to pull the trigger on that, if he wanted to come here.

I think logic dictates you move Muzzin for a pick or 3rd liner.

You save a ton on cap with no real loss on Def.

The new Spezza, vet disount very nice. Hopefully the boys see how badly the others want a cup and take a little discount on their next contracts as well, any extra cap helps you win the cup.

As for his play, this guy has been amazing and easily still at his she could have got 3.5+ on the open market.

Quick repost from the main boards:

"5v5 stat ranking among top dmen since the trade deadline (min 250 minutes, 147 dmen total)

Girodano:

Shot Differential: 58.91 (10th best out of 147, +5.20 REL)
Scoring Chance Differential: 58.59 (11th best out of 147, +3.54 REL)
High Danger Chance Differential: 63.41 (3rd best out of 147, +4.24 REL)
Expected Goal Differential: 61.74 (6th best out of 147, +6.26 REL)

One of the better top 4 dmen in the league since the trade deadline, and doing so playing with a youngster most of the time.

One of the best trade deadline deals just turned into one of the better contracts in the league."

I never expected this good a deal TBH.

Really helps with the covid cap crunch.

Does the NHLPA give Gio a call? They can't be happy.

A 2 million dollar #7 just won't work for a team constructed like ours. Holl likely shown the door. I think Muzzin is still very valued by Dubas & Keefe.

It is unlikely Holl would be the #7 here and it is more likely that we see a Muzzin/Gio rotation to keep both of them healthy and fresh (plus there will likely be injuries to the other guys along the way too).

Although they may listen to offers that are worth their while if they like a guy in UFA. That could include Lyubushkin, but Lyubushkin has to come at the right price and should not be more than a #7 here.

The problem is, a severe lack of physicality there. I really think we need at least two physical D men.

This is what I think happens to. We get someone they can trust on the third line with some potential to move up to the second line.

That ladies and gentlemen is what a sweetheart deal looks like

Glad to have him back, I thought he played really well and showed an ability to help bring our young defenseman along

That's the type of leadership I value Frome a guy in his situation
