It’s a good position to be in having seven legit nhl D under control before the silly season really starts.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Boosh signed to the Hakanpaa deal.
Then you can go shopping.

Really disappointing if true. Sign him to a league minimum deal, maybe even a 2 way, then spot him in from time to time so he gets the 1,000 pts
I don’t really mind that idea either.
But I would like to see him stay in the organization.
Maybe hit his 1000 then retire.

It'd basically be to hit 1000 then cheerlead the rest of the way

If everything remains the same, I think you mix up the young kids with the experienced vet on pairings #2 and #3. Unfortunately, Sandin will have to likely put in some time on the right side.

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Sandin
Giordano - Liljegren
ex. Holl

I think it is important to not waste Sandin and Liljegren. They need to play. They all have capable partners. You could keep Justin Holl as depth, looking at Muzzin's health potentially being an issue.

I think any of Holl, Muzzin or Sandin could be comprised with this new found depth. Muzzin for cap space to use on a big fish, Holl could be subbed out for a cheaper mucker and the Leafs could gain a pick or the Leafs could pitch Sandin into a deal for a salary retained JT Miller.

Good on Gio, you made me day when those terms were announced.

Excited for this signing! Hopefully these older guys like Spezza and Gio taking discounts leaves an impression on our younger guys when they re-up.

Wow. I had the sense that Gio was willing to take a hometown discount, but he left millions on the table by not exploring the UFA market.

Should easily be the best value signing of the off season in the entire league.

Finally our token old man can still play.

Not giving Dubas a pat on the back for this one, he clearly only wants to play in Toronto basically made the contract himself and told Dubas where to sign.

If the leafs plan is to only trade kerfott, Holl and Mrazek from the current roster it will leave them with roughly 15 million in cap space. They need to resign Sandin and Liljegren, two goalies, Top 6 forward and some bottom 6 players.

I have watched just over one period of hockey since Game Two of the Leafs series. Pass me the tinfoil hat, I suspected peculiar reffing against the Leafs that series, I will refrain from watching the sport for the time being.

However, I may make an exception for the odd bit of news that I can commend. Kudos to Gio for having faith in this group and himself while continuing his dream close to family. Changes will be made to this group but Gio can play an integral role in the teams success.

For all of the abuse the fans are giving the Leafs for this post season, I am going to take the rare step of passing the blame on to the league. The Leaf players have to move on from it, but as a fan, I will not. The officiating was criminal, this team DEFINITELY deserved a fairer outcome. Call me an old school whiner, but I have 20/20 vision.

Congrats all around on the signing regardless.

It's not whining to tell the truth.
While I don't believe there is a conspiracy against Toronto, it is undeniable that we got the short end of the stick with regards to officiating these playoffs.
First, we are a far superior even strength team than anyone else in the league, except maybe Calgary this season.
Second, we were assessed nearly double the penalty minutes per game in the playoffs compared to the regular season.
Third, we were given far more penalties than Tampa Bay despite not playing any different.
Fourth, Tampa Bay was caught embellishing quite often, as was Bunting, and yet they continued to get the benefit of the doubt.
Fifth, Game 6.

Is it the reason we lost?
No.

Did it contribute?
Yes.

My football/soccer team-AC Milan won the Championship over the weekend led by a 41 yrs old Ibrahimovic. Hopefully my Leafs will win the Cup next season lead by a 39 yrs old Gio and 41 yrs old Spezza.
